We were worried about eating on 280 at noon on the Sunday after Thanksgiving, but we walked right in with no waiting. Our waitress was precious, very fast, sweet, and efficient.

The bathroom is nice and clean. Definitely much better than I expected in a strip mall Thai restaurant.

We had spring rolls as an appetizer and we both ordered phad Thai. I had beef and hubs had chicken. We thoroughly enjoyed every bite.

They serve your water in a lovely pitcher on the table so you can refill as you like. And they don't ice the water, although it is chilled, which is perfect for me because I have sensitive teeth.

The decor is very nice without being gaudy or over the top. They have both tables and booths. The dining area is larger than I expected in a strip mall restaurant.

It was an exceptional meal, exceeding our expectations. Would definitely go back.

We had an 8 person party tonight which sat comfortably in the restaurant. We ordered one of everything on the “small plate” section of the menu. They all had their own unique flavors are were perfectly cooked. After we ordered 5 entrees to split family style. Best Pad Thai in town and the Yaowarat Duck Noodle dish was mouth watering.
The service was immaculate. Our server had several tables, but never missed a beat with ours. She was so kind, friendly and professional. Even with our shared family style dinner, she kept plates cleared from the table throughout dinner and even swapped out our all plates if she thought they were too dirty. 5 star service for sure!
The owners were walking around greeting tables and making sure everything was perfect. Very nice people.

I have never gotten enough of this restaurant i brought my husband and mother-in-law to Yum Yai for the first time after remodeling and they love the food so much. My husband had Kao soiDuck and he loved it. I had a sip of his noodle duck curry and I can die for it hahaha. Next time I will eat this dish. My mother in law had Por Tak Koong, it is similar to Tom Yum soup and it is a must-try, you will love it. I had Royal Pad Thai which it is a signature dish here I guess. It feels like I ate 5 stars Padthai in Thailand.
Last but not least a huge coconut cake made from real coconut, so yummy.

Overall I love how they present the food. The services, my server was so nice, she is lovely. Her name is Elfin. The restaurant is so clean and i love the vibe inside the restaurant. Thank you for the good food, good services. You made my day.

We decided to give YumYai a try tonight and our dinner was absolutely incredible! We will absolutely be back. My husband picked up our dinner but he said we have to go back and dine in because it has a great atmosphere.

I’ve spent years in Birmingham trying to find the fest Tom Yum. I found it. YumYai’s is perfectly sour with this additional, almost buttery, flavor from the enoki mushroom. I usually only prefer straw mushroom in my Tom Yum, but this has totally changed my mind. Will be coming back soon for more!

We visited Yum Yai for the first time tonight. Our experience was phenomenal from beginning to end. When we arrived at the restaurant, the owner greeted us at the front door and helped seat us. We were quickly greeted by our server who introduced himself and poured us some water. He spent a few minutes telling us about happy hour specials. I ended up buying a glass of white wine and a tasty appetizer called Thai curry rolls (which were amazing, by the way). After a few minutes of looking over the menu, our server stopped by and offered to answer any questions we had. We placed our order and the food was served within 10 minutes.

Food was phenomenal. Service was phenomenal. Atmosphere was phenomenal. We will definitely be back!

Four of us enjoyed a delicious dinner last night and will definitely be going back again. The service is friendly and we all liked the modern, clean decor.
We had Tom kha soup starters, curries and split the beautiful Chai creme brulee. Mmmm!

Yum Yai Street Thai is truly a standout dining experience! From the moment we walked in, the service was among the best I’ve ever encountered. Our waitress was incredibly attentive and gave fantastic recommendations, including their signature cocktail, the “White Christmas,” which was absolutely delightful.

To start, I ordered the Thai Curry Rolls, and they were beyond amazing—perfectly crispy and bursting with flavor. For the main course, I tried the “What The Pho” with beef, and it was so flavorful and comforting that I couldn’t get enough. My aunt and I were so impressed that we started picking random items off the menu to try, and not a single dish disappointed. We also indulged in Thai Green Tea, Crème Brûlée, warm Sake, and more. Everything was simply exceptional.

The atmosphere of Yum Yai Street Thai is as wonderful as the food—warm, welcoming, and beautifully designed. It’s the kind of place where you feel so relaxed and happy that you lose track of time (we even forgot they closed mid-day at 2 PM!).

Every time I visit this place, it is magical. Everything is so fresh, the service is beyond excellent, and the vibe is happy and fun. The thought they put into their presentation makes it an experience to be remembered.

This is my favorite Thai restaurant in Birmingham. We drive from across the city to eat here and the staff is excellent as well. The Thai tea, Tom Kah, and pad Thai are exceptional. I also love their tofu and always get it in my dishes. We tried the pandan jade sago and it is one of the best desserts I've ever had. A MUST try spot.

Yum Yai has always been good, but since the renovation it has only gotten better! The Tom Kha soup alone makes our drive here so, so worth it. The monthly specials are always a hit and the cocktails (and mocktails!) are fantastic! Tonya always takes good care of us and has excellent recommendations. Did I mention how beautiful the food and drinks are? You almost feel bad digging in, but you're always glad you did! Five stars for Yum Yai!

Update: I LOVEEE LOVE LOVEE the renovations done to this place. Came in for lunch and ordered the Blue Orchid & the Lychee Martini, the coconut soup and the lunch salmon. The only con is the complimentary portions are less and the salmon’s sauce was extremely sweet for my liking. As far as the drinks the bartender made sure that the flavors were on point for me, both drinks were really good. I’m Out ✌🏽💋

Food was top tier 👌🏽with the most warm-hearted hospitality. I ordered the Thai Iced Tea, Fried calamari and the Miso Ramen. The meal also included a complimentary coconut soup and veggie spring roll. Everything from the beverage to the appetizer and entree were delicious. Portion size was exceedingly filling even enough to take home for later. Food was delivered hot and fresh. First time trying this particular restaurant but the food and service were phenomenal. I definitely recommend this to anyone wanting to get a real feel of a Thai restaurant. I absolutely will be coming back.

What an experience!! My husband and I with our 7 year old son saw where this place had re-opened after a remodeling of their restaurant. We had some amazing dishes! The Zaap wings...enough said get them! The pork belly dish Ka Prow Moo Krob...out of this world! Thai Tea drink is a must! We had dessert which was a huge slice of coconut cake with real coconut and the Thai tea Creme Brule! No joke, this place is now our favorite and they're open on Sundays. Yes!!

We got lunch takeout from Yum Yai all the time. The lunch came with soup and a spring roll. They closed for renovations. When they reopened, the prices went up significantly. Ordered takeout...it did not come with spring roll or soup. Took order back in to see why no spring roll or soup, and manager said they no longer came with roll or soup. Did not offer any solution so we got a refund. Will never go back. Bad customer service and prices too high and you get less.

Wow. These prices are ridiculous. I don’t expect Chiangmai prices here but other local asian places are charging $5-$7 cheaper for similar dishes. $60 for fried rice, noodles and a two rolls. To their credit, food tastes very good.

I discovered yum yai around 2022. Ever since my first visit, I couldn’t get enough. I lived out in Gardendale at the time and I would make the drive down as much as possible. I celebrated my birthday there, I just love the place. The pad Thai is to die for and the shrimp basil rolls are chef's kiss👩🏻‍🍳 💋 !! The lady’s are always so friendly, and welcoming. You can tell they love what they do with the food they put out! If you’re ever in the area- stop by you'll become obsessed just like I am!

It was my husband's and mine first time at Yum Yai and we can say that it's the best Thai restaurant we have been to in Birmingham. The customer service is excellent and the food is so so delicious. We are definitely coming back again! Thank you Yum Yai

This was a hard one to not rate a five .
The service is wonderful . The menu is amazing. I love that they continually change it and add new dishes.
It’s the absolute best Thai food. Later portions and every single dish I’ve tried have been stellar.
The place itself is small and you aren’t going for atmosphere but honestly my alone issue are the prices.
Even as amazing as the food is , many dishes only have dinner portions and they at $25 of more .
Quality of the food is worth the price but if I’m paying that I need to the location to be more upscale.
I feel like this is a great lunch spot ordering off of the lunch menu .

OMG! Found my favorite Bham Thai place. They moved to the ‘burbs from Homewood. Definitely worth the 280 trek!

Delicious. There's a variety of fresh flavors here to choose from. Service is prompt and kind. Definitely stop by if you're in the area. Get the mango sticky rice.

The food is absolutely delicious and so unique! We got the fried pork gyoza with curry dipping sauce and it was the most crispy gyoza I've ever had. The curry sauce was spicy and ridiculously flavorful. Also you HAVE to try the drunken noodles! The noodles are thin and delightfully chewy and coated in a sticky savory-sweet sauce. I haven't had anything like it before!

If you want a real show stopper, order the whole fried snapper. It's masterfully fried, both crispy outside and tender inside. The sauce it's served with is spicy, sweet, and rich with fragrant spices and herbs. And yes, it's an ENTIRE snapper.

We really enjoyed our lunch here. I had been to the old location near UAB but hadn’t yet been to the new location. The restaurant was lovely. The lunch soup was delicious, and we both enjoyed our main courses.

Can I give this place 10 stars? This is the best Asian food I've had. Get the Pad Thai Wings for sure. Everything we had was incredible. The presentation, flavor, service....

My wife and I have a special category of food that we call 'happy food'—food that makes us happy and causes us to smile because of the 'wow' factor. Yum Yai, with their flavors and presentation, does just that—it makes us smile! The food was absolutely delicious, and the service was second to none. We will definitely be repeat customers. Stopped in for the first (and last) time to pick up lunch. I got the drunken noodles lunch special. The noodles were mostly flavorless, all stuck together, and broccoli was just steamed and thrown in. Soup was good, but they only gave a couple spoonfuls. For $15, I expected a lot more.

The food was so good! We got the shrimp basil rolls and they tasted very fresh. They came with a peanut sauce that tasted a little spicier than the normal peanut sauce and we liked it better! We also got Khao Soi which was a yummy warm curry with noodles and chicken and Khao moo dang which was rice with grilled tenderloin pork and Chinese sausage in a light barbecue sauce. These lunch specials came with very tasty coconut soup and a spring roll. Lastly, we got a big piece of coconut cake which was sweet and spongy. They also have green Thai tea which is hard to find. Everything was plated prettily and tasted amazing. They have some unique items on their menu and everyone working there is super friendly. Prices are average and it's not crowded during lunchtime. We will be back!

Some of the most wonderful, fresh Thai food in Birmingham! We love the owner and staff that always recommend new dishes/ specials. Today it was disco fries ( yes, they were moving!;), crab cream cheese pockets, and Chicken Massamun Curry, Iced Lemongrass Pandan Tea and Love Lava cake! The Massamun was on point-a rich curry seasoned with bay leaf, star anise, and cardamom. Great service…great food! Highly recommend!!

My favorite restaurant in Birmingham. I drive all the way from Tuscaloosa for their authentic food. I suggest the Chicken Pad Thai and getting it Thai spicy. Perfect date spot or just a casual putting.

This has been a good place for us to take out. But the last time was a disaster. We are strict vegetarians. When we ordered fried rice we mentioned not to add any meat and that includes egg as well. Sure enough when we brought the food back home, we found lots of fried eggs. Additionally, we mentioned that we need chilli sauce. When I went to pick up the food I asked the lady about it and she mentioned she had kept 2 small cups inside the brown bag. There were none. This place is a little expensive. We would not mind it if we get what we ordered. Unfortunately that hasn’t been the case.

The food here is always excellent. The Pork Gyoza was especially tasty. I enjoyed the Thai Spicy Noodle soup, and my wife really liked the pad See U.

We went there for lunch and were pleasantly surprised. It’s a cute little restaurant with great food. It was a weekend and restaurant was completely full so food took longer than we had hoped for but it was worth the wait. We will be going back.

This was one of the BEST places to eat on my trip to Birmingham! The staff is so kind, the food phenomenal and the dessert was out of this world! I would definitely recommend you try the Chai Tea Creme Brûlée!

Charming little Thai bistro. Was busy, but not crowded, at lunchtime on a Saturday. Staff was friendly, and food was ready fairly quickly. Ordered the fresh basil wraps, edamame, and chicken pad thai. Though the menu doesn't state it, the pad thai came with coconut soup and a veggie spring roll. All were good!

The food and service her are extraordinary. The Tom Yum soup is the best I've had and the Massamun and Paneang Curry did NOT disappoint. Lovely meal.

Really great little hole in the wall hidden on 280. Quiet spot, clean, really nice owner and employees. Food takes a little while but nothing crazy. Great authentic Thai and Asian cuisine with plenty of options. Will definitely go back.

Way overpriced!

We came in for a quick bite. Easy fast service and fresh good food. We had the basil rolls and tom yum soup. I've had my share of my tom yum and this was both fresh, flavor packed and full of umami.

It is one of the best restaurants in Birmingham. From the flavors to atmosphere down to the little things like the seasoning. You absolutely can not go wrong with it.

We happen to be in Hoover one day last week and we’re craving authentic Thai food. We had bread on line about Yum Yai and decided to give it a try. The food wise spectacular. Everything was as fresh as you could possibly want it to be. We had fresh basil rolls as a appetizer and they were filled with fresh basil. I had Penang curry with chicken and it could not have been any better. We will be a repeat customer in the future

I believe she’s the owner, but the lady that works the front of the house during the day is always so friendly and remembers diners’ regular orders and special requests from basically the first visit.
