Fish Cheeks offers authentic Thai seafood and family-style cuisine in New York, NY.
Came because of the hype but my family and I thought most of our food we got was a bit too salty. Specifically thought the crispy rice salad & pork appetizer was way too salty. We do love how the fish was very flavorful though, the steamed fish was our favorite for sure. Crispy pork is very spicy so just a heads up!
I tried their 2025 RW menu on my first visit to the restaurant. The oysters were amazing—I loved their bold sour and spicy flavor. The chicken wings and crab fried rice came in generous portions, adding great value to the Restaurant Week experience. However, both dishes were a bit too salty for my taste. The gentleman who served me was incredibly kind and attentive, which made the experience enjoyable. Overall, it was a good Restaurant Week visit, but I’m not sure I’d return.
We had the absolute pleasure of dining at Fish Cheeks, and I can't recommend it enough! From the moment we walked in, we were greeted by the warm, welcoming atmosphere and friendly staff. The vibe is vibrant and cozy, with just the right balance of energy and comfort.
The service was great —attentive, knowledgeable, and with just the right amount of charm. Our server made fantastic recommendations, and we felt truly taken care of throughout our meal.
Every dish was a perfect balance of bold flavors and fresh ingredients. From the aromatics to the perfectly cooked fish, everything was bursting with flavor and we could taste the care that went into every bite.
Fish Cheeks truly nails it with both authenticity and innovation. Whether you're a fan of traditional Thai flavors or looking to try something new, this spot does not disappoint. Highly recommend—it’s a must-visit!
Fantastic lunch with my not so little City Girl 💚 Thank goodness she can chow down! The gentleman that served us was very friendly, gave us his recommendations and suggested how to best utilize the tasty sauces. We would 100% order the Oysters, Crab Curry, Crispy Rice Salad and Chili Garlic Pork Belly again! Each dish was so tasty and we loved that the spices and flavors were not toned down 😋
Crazy good spot for Thai seafood-focused cuisine, probably one of the best in town. Every dish was amazing, but personal favorites were definitely the steamed fish main and the shrimp in 3 crab sauce appetizer with their strong flavors. Also, the cocktails are insane — the Punch Drunk Love is just excellent. This place is definitely a strong recommend.
The coconut crab curry is spicy and flavorful. It paired really well with the citrusy steamed fish broth.
I liked the tender pork cheeks as well. The zabb wings seemed really popular, but i didn’t think it was too special compared to the other dishes. Their happy hour lasts through a large part of the day. So definitely take advantage of the discounted drinks!
Fish Cheeks is one of my favorite restaurants in the City. I try to stop by at least once every time I return to NYC.
At this point, I’ve eaten just about every dish on the menu and feel like you can’t really go wrong. That said, don’t skip out of the zabb wings. I also especially love their shrimp in 3 crab sauce and coconut crab curry, as well as their pandan lemongrass iced tea for a refreshing non-alcoholic beverage.
If you become as addicted to their wings as I have, you can also purchase containers of the spice mix from them!
If you want to go during dinner time, book reservations in advance.
Fresh, bold, beautiful flavors. Delicious drinks, and happy hour. What else can you ask for?
Fish Cheeks was a truly great experience, everything we had was delicious, the ingredients tasted fresh and the drinks were on point. Decoration is beautiful, ambiance is welcoming and fun, and the service was excellent. It was a truly great meal.
One of my favorite b places to dine in NYC. It’s very special
Great food
Food was great! But a bit spicy and a bit pricey.
Fried rice and steamed fish is so good! Great food!
If I had to choose my last meal on earth it would be their steamed fish and crab fried rice. And their oysters made me truly understand why it’s an aphrodisiac.
1000% recommend.
Bad, everything is so bad, the waiters kept us waiting for about an hour until everyone went in and when we ask about when can we walk in she said she called us 30minutes ago. Excuse me are we deaf? Why we asked how long can we walk in you kept us waiting??? I am sooooo annoyed that I don't want to eat in this restaurant any more, but my friend said she wants to taste it.
Ended up feeling totally deflated by the end of lunch. I was so disappointed by my experience after wanting to visit for weeks. I've stopped in during my lunch break to buy zabb seasoning which I've been having a great time using so I was really excited to eat here. Kraprow is my favorite Thai dish, I get it at various spots as a side quest to find the best versions. I even make it at home. Their dry aged beef kraprow was one of the worst iterations of this dish I've ever tried and I was worried about eating it since the egg white wasn't as set as I'm used to comfortanly eating. Our server never felt the need to check in after the food arrived although we heard her do so with surrounding tables in this cramped dining area. That put a worse taste in my mouth than the Kraprow. I was prepared to order something else but after realizing she wasn't giving us the same level of service as the diners who sat inches away, I kinda lost my appetite. I like to research and read reviews and this place has been lauded as such a great dining experience by so many people. I wish I could've had the 5 stsr experience I was looking forward to. Dining here on Valentine's Day only added insult to injury. Just wasn't pleasant for me but maybe my expectations were too high. :/

Great service!
Everything is amazing
The crab curry, pork belly, and crab fried rice were fantastically delicious. The service was personable and attentive. I do find the specialty cocktails overly complex and while good I think they could be exceptional by simplifying them down to fewer, excellent flavors. Overall, I love this place and will definitely be back.
Everything was so nice, since the hostess, the food and our Server.
Kevin Dragon truly enhanced the experience. Incredible customer service.
A fun Thai place with a nice variety of things to eat and drink
The fish was the best I’ve ever had! Service was fabulous. This place has a great vibe and great food!
On of my favorite spot, like the green fish dish is soooo good also the oyster and the crab fried rice, oh my god to die for
I N C R E D I B L E ! Nothing else to say

Modern Thai restaurants with delicious dishes and cocktails! I would recommend their coconut crab curry, shrimp in crab sauce, and their ceviche. Their cocktails are bit in the funky side, which I really enjoyed, but the highlight was our host. He gave great recommendations, and entertained us the whole time. The restaurant was full when we visited, and there were no reservations available on Resy, but we showed up and got a table in under 15 minutes.
Ordered the zabb wings, coconut crab curry, steamed rice, and the ice cream dessert. We enjoyed the chicken wings. The coconut crab curry was good, but not out-of-this world. Very underwhelmed by the steamed fish. While some might say this dish was exploding with flavor, I found everything to be overdone to the point where I could not actually taste the fish meat itself. WAY too much lime and cilantro. The dessert was a nice palate cleanser and enjoyed the combination of textures, but was disappointing to see only one option on the menu!
The hostess tonight was horribly and unnecessarily rude, condescending and disrespectful from the moment we came in to check in for our reservation. Honestly the worst hostess service i’ve ever received at a restaurant. Don’t understand how she got hired but it’s really sad because the food here was good but the service we got when being seated was awful.
I haven't been to one of my favorite Thai places in a minute, and today I went for lunch and ordered a couple of my favorite dishes. I was sad to experience a pretty significant drop in quality. They nerfed the crab curry! It used to be much spicier. It made me jump to the conclusion that Fish Cheeks took a page our of David Chang's playbook. Build a reputation by doing bold new things, then sell out and smooth out for the masses. Speaking of bold, the Zabb wings were bland and dry. The dish that impressed me the most was the corn salad. Oh well. At least it is still a vibey restaurant with a well trained staff. I may try again some time, but it lost its heart status on my maps.
Really good
Had such a fun date night here. Was first told our wait would be 45 minutes and it was only 30 seconds--we were lucky! Sat at the bar and service was exceptional: friendly, helpful recommendations, and great pacing. The food was so tasty-we had the chicken wings to start, and the duck curry and crab fried rice as entrees. Don't miss the dessert, anything with evaporated milk is heaven sent. Cocktails were also delicious and strong. Can't wait to come back with a group of friends!
Maybe my expectations were too high, but I liked it, didn’t love it. Service was great though.
I was looking for a simple restaurant to go to after work to enjoy a meal and catch up with a friend. This is not the place to do that.
With that being said we had the ZABB WINGS, the PORK BELLY CHILI GARLIC, and the 30 DAYS DRY AGED BEEF KAPROW. The wings were cooked perfectly, I wish there was less of a lime taste but that’s a personal preference. The pork belly was perfect and the portion is enough to share for two. The beef kaprow was really good but be mindful that it’s spicy if you have a low spice tolerance. The decor was nice and the service was fair. Felt like we being rushed out. While the dishes we had were indeed good they weren’t “wow” dishes. Also kind of pricey. It’s near Soho where there are dozens of other good Thai restaurants.
I Definitely need to come back.
The best Thai in the city!
Delicious food. Tried the crispy rice salad and pork, pork belly chili garlic, Steamed fish and rawaaeng duck curry. All amazing!
They managed to surprise us with their innovations. The only downside is that you might want to avoid peak hours.
Extremely creative, extremely well executed food, from a diverse and fun staff. We had the zabb chicken wings, the corn salad, the roasted cabbage, and a pork chop special. Each dish had a completely different flavor profile and each dish was a jewel. The cabbage (with garlic and fish sauce) was simple and transcendent. Food is spicy and is made with a lot of courage. Staff are like old friends, even if they are serving you for the first time. Great date spot, great friends’ spot. My only complaint is that it’s a little loud inside.
When you first walk in you’re hit with this fragrant smell of lemongrass and fish sauce and just all of it, and it’s incredible. Instantly mouthwatering. The coconut crab curry is a must. The shrimp in 3 crab sauce is a must. The minced ribeye was solid but pretty spicy even for me. Fantastic all around and we’re definitely heading back for happy hour.
This place offers incredible high-end food with great service and atmosphere. The server really helped with recommendations.
I highly recommend the fish dish, crab coconut curry, and the sticky rice pudding dessert.
Great date night spot. Amazing food. Very consistent quality and service. Always ask about the specials, very worth the price.
My threshold for Thai places is high and this really surpassed my expectations. Came for New Years Day lunch.
Easy enough to get a reservation and got a lovely corner booth. The vibe of the place overall is super cute. Bright colors, fun staff shirts. The menu is overwhelming only because there were so many things I wanted.
Started with the cuttlefish. I honestly didn't remember the spice level indicated on the menu so I was shook when I tried the dipping sauce. The fish was so tender, a huge portion, and tasty. The dipping sauce packs a punch. So flavorful and a little numbing. Adding the cilantro on top of each bite really completes it. But the spice level is real.
For mains, grabbed the crab curry and the scallops. The former I was a bit worried about as I don't typically love coconut forward dishes. However, looking around it seems that everyone gets this dish and I get why. Lovely seasoning, tons of crab. It's labeled as four chili peppers but I really don't understand that- would at most give it 2 (maybe even 1?). But I don't think that's a bad thing and maybe the coconut just balanced it out very well. The scallop dish was a surprise. One for how many scallops you're given. Two for how tender they are. And three for just the overall taste. I wasn't sure what this specific curry paste would taste like and it was so so lovely. Both dishes came with jasmine rice but we were given the option of switching one to sticky rice, which we did, and I found this to be a lot more manageable for dipping into the sauces.
Also grabbed the pakboong fai dang side dish. I had never had this and wow was it spicy. Once I realized I thoroughly enjoyed it. Such rich combo of spice and the texture was not what I would have expected upon inspection.
The happy hour is essentially all day and is a great deal for drinks.
Service I felt like was mid until we accidentally dropped a glass and then I truly saw how attentive everyone in the restaurant could be.
Overall such a great experience. It was ironically not our first choice but happened to be open for the holiday and now I'm so grateful it was!
Wobbly tables aside, the atmosphere was decent. Even though the food is decent, I am not a fan of the pricing here, we ordered two dishes and they were both overpriced. $40 for the signature fish, $26 for the crab fried rice, and some dessert for unknown amounts. There's barely any meat on the crab fried rice, they probably used less than one crab for this dish. The fish was impressive, but was it worth $40? After tax and tip the bill came out to be $120, but I left hungry. The waiters were also a bit pushy, I felt rushed and we were in and out in 1.5 hours.
Food was on point !
This was our second visit to Fish Cheeks (last was in June 2021) and it was even better than I remembered. We got the grilled pork cheeks, crispy rice and pork salad, corn salad, and crab fried rice. All of the flavors were absolutely stunning and textures were on point (the crab fried rice is so light and fluffy it seems it will float off the plate). The Soi 38 cocktail was unusual (in a good way) and goes perfectly with the delicious food. We will definitely be back, this place is amazing.
A bit tight but the food was good 👍🏼.
One of the best meals I’ve had in a while. Great flavors and impeccable service.
Very tasty. Description of food did not include cilantro, had to send back
The crab fried rice at this restaurant was quite disappointing. Priced at $29, it only had a few small pieces of crab, and the flavor was overly salty, which made it hard to enjoy. The high price combined with the lack of crab and unbalanced seasoning felt far from worth it. it was not a satisfying experience.
Overall very disappointing experience. Our bill for two people was $130 overall for what amounted to: a small bowl of curry ($30), a small steamed fish ($40), two bowls of white rice ($3), half-dozen oysters ($12), and two beers.
The curry was put in the "sharable" section but was a tiny bowl frankly not enough for one person. The fish was tiny and both me and my partner left hungry after shelling out $130.
The restaurant was very loud and the table we got was very wobbly to the point of making it hard to eat properly. It felt like a fast food restaurant.
I would not reccomend this place at all. It's nowhere near nice enough to justify 'fine dining' prices, the food was not particularly interesting, and the portions were so small it felt like we were being scammed.
For this price, go somewhere that is actually nice.
Amazing food. Nam Jim seafood sauce is amazing and authentic. I loved the crab fried and grilled Cuttlefish
Crab fried rice, Zabb wings and herbed fish are not to be missed!
Phenomenal food- the steamed fish with herbs is one of the best dishes in nyc…
The coconut crab curry is spicy and flavorful. It paired really well with the citrusy steamed fish broth.
I liked the tender pork cheeks as well. The zabb wings seemed really popular, but i didn’t think it was too special compared to the other dishes. Their happy hour lasts through a large part of the day. So definitely take advantage of the discounted drinks!
So good!!
It’s a bit more refined Thai food, with the rating I was expecting it to BLOW my mind but I’ve had better Thai in the city. The server was really pushy to kick us off the table while we still had drinks and were still picking at the food. And the menu says spicy, it was not at all, the highlight was the steamed fish and the scallop curry
This Review is solely based on Walk-In Service at the door. We did not dine-in nor eat.*
After enjoying a museum
day uptown, we trekked to Bond St to grab what we hoped to be a casual meal. The host said she checked my party of 2 in, but I never received a confirmation TXT. 30 min later we returned to check and she.. said a table had just paid and to come back in 10 min. We never received a Notification… We never sat down at Fish Cheeks. Not planning to comeback. Other great places to eat in the neighborhood and that’s exactly what we did.
Door etiquette is important to NY Diners. Better off ordering Take-Out to avoid the inevitable poor service.
Great food its a must
Food was great here. And the service was very nice. The restaurant was a little bit to loud for me. But I would go back to eat again
I love this place. So convivial, and the food is amazing. The more friends you go with the more food you can share! It is always super crowded, even relatively late.
Highly recommend, we walked in and waited for a table. It was pretty quick. Our server was great! If you have Vinny, he was amazing! Super sweet, polite, his customer service was great and gave us all the right recommendations. We had the corn salad (that was super refreshing), steam fish (highly recommend!!) the tofu and the vegan green curry. If you’re vegetarian, both vegan dishes were a great option! Enjoy, thanks Vinny!
현지 미국인들이 많이 오는 식당이더라구요. 음식과 분위기 모두 좋았습니다. 좋은 경험이었습니다.
The perfect place for either drink original cocktail, eat very delicate food or both!
Each dish was so tasty and we loved that the spices and flavors were not toned down 😋
Fantastic food. Terrific chef. Attentive service. My favorite place to eat.
Amazing, fancy Thai food. Not your typical neighborhood Thai restaurant. get the steamed whole fish!
The zabb wings so good! My friend had oysters for the first time, loved it. Sasi and all the staff were so great! Coming again
delicious. you pay for what you ask for.
Happy hour prices and selection is great for oyster lovers
Modern twist on Thai food and it works. Food was amazing. Server was friendly and attentive. Nice atmosphere. Only criticism was maître d’ needed attitude lessons.
The prawn curry was so amazing! Everything else was delicious as well but that was my favorite dish of the night.
I like the food there very much. Service is very good too
What can I say, everything about this restaurant meets the expectations of what defines this Thai restaurant different from other Thai restaurants in New York City. This is a good restaurant, and a smart business to have a fairly sized menu to keep up with the quality of food.
My gripe is the prices, the customer favorite coconut curry crab meat was 12 dollars over my expected price. I based this on 5 other similar Thai restaurants in the city (2 in Ny Ny and 3 in Qns). Especially for the size of plate I felt the restaurant was overshooting their price. I wanted to give the restaurant a try for the experience, and it was worth it. Expect to spend a little extra for some good Thai food.
Absolutely incredible. Server gave me free tea as well when she saw I was struggling with the spiciness :-)
One of the best Thai posts in the city by far!! Service was very friendly and attentive.
They had no available Resys on the site for 6 but we emailed and were able to get a table on a weekend at 5pm! Luckily they also have Happy Hour -- none of their drinks were misses for us, we even ordered a second round!
The food feels very authentic and flavors all pack a punch!
太难吃了 纽约吃过最难吃的泰餐 最开始是生腌虾太咸了 但是以为只有这一道菜失误 实际上网上推荐的steamed fish也很难吃 牛肉粒配饭也很一般
Never heard of this place until last night, and it was one of the best meals I’ve ever had in NYC! The steamed fish is to die for, along with the crab glass noodles dish, steamed cabbage, and crab fried rice. Even the chicken wings were amazing. 20/10. The flavors married each other so well, everything was so fresh. The servers were amazing. The only bad (it’s really not even that bad) is that the tables are tiny and it’s a tight fit. Other than that, highly recommend getting a reservation!
my favorite thai restaurant in ny! amazing service and food
Amazing - reminded me of Bangkok dinners.
High quality veggies, fish and pork. Not too salty like some places can be. A ton of savoriness with every bite. The rice was perfect and not watery. Service was great, also loved sitting by the heater personally. Only feedback is maybe add mango sticky rice (or black sticky rice) to the dessert menu- definitely my favorite Thai dessert by far
Fish Cheeks it top one my favorite restaurants ever! Every time I go the food is delicious and the service is outstanding. Our server Jennifer was awesome! Jennifer helped us through the menu and gave some excellent suggestions. Seriously, every dish was delicious. Thanks, Jennifer for making our dinner so fantastic and thanks Fish Cheeks for always making us feel welcome when we dine there. If this place is on your list this is a MUST TRY!
Coco bah drink was super unique and I highly recommend! Can’t go wrong with any of their crab items on the menu
Spicy mango cocktail was delicious. Food was very tasty. The spicy kind of overpowered most of the (many) flavors. But still a satisfying meal! Service was wonderful and fast. They were knowledgable about allergens which was much appreciated. Will be back for sure.
Fish a must try. Their chicken wings are a dream.
so so overrated. I’ve been here for lunch and dinner but both have been overpriced disappointments. the crispy rice salad was so salty it was legit inedible. fried fish was flavorless, duck curry was the best but low bar. overall won’t be returning. don’t wait for this place.
Great place
A charming Thai restaurant with a well-curated menu of unique offerings. Every dish we tried - from the steamed fish (pretty much deboned!) to the pork belly and scallops - was perfectly balanced in flavor with just the right amount of spice. Easily one of my favorite Thai spots in NYC!
Not a spice man but managed to eat their dishes no problems!
By far the best meal we had on our 1 week visit to NYC!
The food is consistently amazing. The service this time was so disappointing.. the waitress had us put napkins under the table to fix the wobble ourselves followed by no serving ware served, no water refilled, and wrong order delivered.
Excellent restaurant où l’on se régale avec des plats atypiques
Attention toutefois aux épices
Le personnel est attentif et bon conseiller
Je recommande
I discovered Fisch Checks in NYC spontaneously through an app, and I am absolutely thrilled! From the moment you step in, you feel the charming and inviting atmosphere, which makes the visit immediately pleasant. The service was extremely professional, attentive, and pleasantly unobtrusive – you feel well taken care of right from the start.
The highlight, of course, was the food. The variety of Thai dishes is impressive, and every dish we tried was a hit! Fresh ingredients, perfectly balanced flavors, and beautiful presentation – the food truly exceeded our expectations.
Overall, it was a fantastic evening that we thoroughly enjoyed. If you’re looking for authentic Thai food in a relaxed and stylish setting, this is the place to go!
Best Thai downtown
Amazinf thai food. Great for delivery too. The coconut crab curry is amazing.
This place is amazing. Period.
Had a great time here. We were a trio of raw crab, MSG and cilantro allergy which is really not ideal for this cuisine but Dan took great care of us. Service was excellent he even brought us lists of all the food that didn’t contain our allergens. Highly recommend!
We dropped in for a cocktail and decided to try the Zabb Wings! Literally THE best I ever had. Spicy …not greasy and tossed with the most fabulous flavors!! Happy hour is a winner!! Sit at the bar for fun ppl convos too
Fish cheeks was an amazing culinary experience and I'd definitely return when I'm back in the city.
The food was impressive, my friends and I were visiting the city and this was the best meal on our trip. We quickly devoured the steamed fish (which to our surprise came neatly/mostly deboned). The coconut crab curry was also pretty good, as were the lime chicken wings. When you order tea it comes with these yummy biscuits that have a fruity filling.
The patio wasn't that great - the tables and chairs are on unlevel ground as they extend into the road (cars were going by too), the indoor dining experience definitely looks nicer and I highly recommend making reservations ahead, as it's a popular spot.
Food was super yummy! I genuinely enjoyed every dish I got here. The steamed fish was very flavourful
A nice Thai place that however seems a bit hyped up for the price point. Dishes are a bit sweet for my taste and the 15min wait to be seated would have warranted a head’s up or a drink.
I feel like the food is a bit hyped. I really loved the cuttlefish and corn salad for appetizers, but the fried fish entree was a it dry.
Amazing dinner, fish was outstanding. The fried chicken also does the job. Cocktails could be better.
