The chef is originally born and raise in Chingmai, the northern part of Thailand.
The goal is to bring the original yet unique flavor of his family’s recipes to customers here at Lan Larb Chiangmai.
The complex and distinctive taste of different herbs is the key of making Thai’s Northern dishes stand out among other Thai dishes.
I have never been disappointed with this restaurant. I came all the way from Washington, DC, just to have lunch here. The food is excellent—truly the best and most authentic Northern Thai cuisine. The service is great, and the atmosphere is warm and welcoming. I highly recommend this place, especially if you’ve ever been to Chiang Mai, Thailand, because the flavors make it feel like a Chiang Mai kitchen has been brought right to the heart of Soho, New York City!
Northern style Thai food, not your typical Thai. Every dish is amazing and has a unique taste. It's always good to try something different because all their dishes are worth trying. Drinks are great, too. Small but very welcoming restaurant. Best food for the money in this area. Highly recommended.
Really good Thai food. Not sure why they have a B letter but honestly they should have an A. The restaurant is clean, smells clean. The workers are really nice and work fast! If I come back to New York, this will be one of my food spots for now on! Don’t hesitate to try because of the letter grade!
It is so welcoming to have Thai food that shows the diverse and complex tastes of Thailand. So many other places get an ingredient or two right, but not the complexity of all the ingredients. Here, the ingredients shine and combine to create a wonderful feast for the taste buds!
Great Thai restaurant. Khao Soi, Penang Curry, and calamari were excellent. Prices are reasonable, servers were very attentive either checking on the food, filling our glasses, or removing used plates. We had to wait about 35min to get seated because the dining room is pretty small but all seats were constantly filled. Would highly recommend.
I came here twice.
The first time, it was for dinner. It was very busy and we waited for about an hour. There are many things on the menu so it was difficult to decide what to get. I settled with their seasonal special which was a crab curry noodle and their summer roll with tofu. Their curry was very flavourful and the crab meat was tender. The noodles were soft and absorbed all of the flavour. It was really really good. I wish there was more curry sauce because it was so good!
The summer rolls were a typical summer roll. It didn't have much flavour but I didn't expect it to.
The second time I came, it was during lunch time and I tried their lunch combo with Tom yum soup and red curry. This time I was quite disappointed as the first meal I had here was so good. The red curry was lackluster and tasted worse than most thai places I've been to. There was not much meat and the veggies were lacking as well. I'm surprised at the big difference between the two meals.
Judging by just the first time I would rate this restaurant a 5, but due to the second visit I will need to lower it to a 4.
We wanted to eat at Thai Diner, but unfortunately the wait was too long. They only do walk ins. We found this place a few blocks down with great reviews. The wait was much shorter even if the restaurant itself only has a few tables. No regret at all! One of the best Thai food we’ve had. They specialize in Northern Thai food (which we don’t usually see in most restaurants). Their “spiciness level” is much more intense than those in Houston. Highly recommended!

Food was good, ambience was great. Great hospitality and service.

The waitress with short hair had a bad attitude and her hair was dyed. So there is no business for dinner
we happened to go into this restaurant on a whim since the other restaurant we had planned was full, and i do not regret it at all! the food is delicious, staff are sweet, and atmosphere cozy. i tend to order medium spicy or spicy when im in the states, but it seemed to me that the restaurant is referring to authentic thai spice levels, so keep that in mind!

Really delicious Thai food and always super efficient with pickups. Menu has more variety of Thai dishes than most and the house specialties are excellent
The food is really good! We went during lunch hours and the restaurant was packed. Recommend booking ahead of time especially for a group of 3 or more as the seatings are limited and to avoid waiting in a cold.
We got moo ping, larb kua chiangmai (love this dish!), and pad see ew. The food came out pretty quick and the service was superb.
Great authentic Thai- friendly service
The food is really authentic and gd. But one of the staff there has asked us more than 10 times if we are done with no one waiting outside. It feels like they just want us to finish and leave asap, which is extremely unpleasant.

Very cute restaurant- yummy food. Will come back
Boy is it hard to find authentic Thai food in NYC that's owned by Thai people. This place has great food, priced well and has lots of authentic northern Thai dishes. The establishment is rather small, but there are a few outdoor seats available.
Such a fun and cute spot. Everyone was so attentive and checking in on our table to get our order in, food to us, check what ever we needed. The food was also amazing and the mocktail was so refreshing, not too sweet and super delicious. Would highly recommend coming here.
GF friendly, with GF marked on the nenu

was looking for some warm comfort food and stumbled upon this gem. their roti is amazing and their boat noodles were cooked with so much flavor and love. my sister had the spicy crispy pork belly and she absolutely loved it. also, i’m obsessed with their lychee drinks. can’t wait to try again 💗
The food was really good and the place was very cozy. Was very packed when we went but we got seats immediately. The price was pretty good for three people. Three dishes with side meals included and two drinks. Each person paid about $25 and we were so full. Would definitely go again.

Sehr kleines Lokal.
A Thai restaurant nestled in Little Italy with a cozy and intimate vibe. I ordered the Kor Moo Yang (marinated pork) and Pad Woon Sen (stir-fried glass noodles). The marinated pork was firm, succulent, and enjoyable to chew, but the Pad Woon Sen was slightly disappointing, as it was a bit greasy. Overall, it's still a good spot for a meal.
Great food.
Food is so good and fresh! Staff are prompt and friendly. I had a great experience and will come again. Very cute inside and neighborhood vibe - few tables when it’s busy but also a great place for take out - they have their system down.
Found a BUG in my Thai iced tea and mentioned it to the first waiter, who went “EWW” and promptly got us a new cup which I appreciated. However, I was frustrated when another waiter tried to gaslight me while we were paying the bill. Instead of an apology, she insisted it was just a leaf. Like girl seriously, I know what a bug looks like—what leaf has SIX LEGS and WINGS? Honestly, food was alright just did not appreciate getting gaslighted 🙄
-update—-again, they are trying to gaslight me into saying that this was a review for the wrong place. (I can provide my receipt) Just admit and acknowledge your mistakes. BEWARE if you eat here and you might just find a BUG!! (Also seen in other reviews - I think this is enough to inform you about their hygiene)
Food was okay… you can find a lot of more authentic thai options in the city. Service is extremely bad and rude staff, usually thai people are known for their hospitality but get ready to be treated with disrespect here
Don’t believe the reviews — I don’t know if they are fake or paid or what, or if I just somehow got so incredibly unlucky, but this sure as hell isn’t a 4.5 star place.
Pad Thai — disgusting, soggy, straight to the trash.
Lara Kia Chiangmai — tasteless, dry as a bone, served with sticky rice that could have been used to hang posters on the wall. Straight to the trash.
Crying ti ger — the best of the three but beef was hard as a shoe. Mostly went to the trash.
I’ll stop here. Yikes.
. After a hour waiting i received an low quality noodle, tough meat drained in salt, and some wet soaked vegtables. Not worth my money. Wont reccommend
The atmosphere is nice, the music's not too loud which is good if you want to have a conversation. The service is nice. The problem is the food. Took 2 typical dishes, the larb and the papaya salad. The salad was pretty tasteless. I think they may have prepared it by tossing, not in a pestle? The larb was also a disappointment. The seasoning was weak, tasted more like shredded beef than an actual prepared dish. It's pretty good, except the sticky rice which was pretty tasteless, just not what it's supposed to be.
Unique and tasty northern Thai dishes in a cozy dining area. The gaeng hung lay was delicious. We tried the mango, lychee, and regular thai iced tea, and they were all pretty good. Not too expensive, either.
Lunch special was decent. Nothing special or mindblowing but is still a good thai food and tastes pretty authentic to me.
Green curry was alright, generous in protein, lots of ginger, when u taste it itdoes really taste green
The crab rangoon was goodtoo super creamy but i think it is made by crab sticks not actual crab
The mango sticky rice is good and a lottt i just wishthey givemore sauce and make it a little sweeter
Best curry (Panang Curry) I've ever had and I still think about it all the time If I had a choice I would eat here all the time.
Also loved the Tom Yum Soup
Northern Thai cuisine is the real deal, this spot is guaranteed by locals. The flavors are smooth, and the portions are just right. Whether you're Thai or from foreign peeps, you'll enjoy every bite😋 Plus, there's a solid menu of classic Thai dishes, all at fair prices, in a clean spot with great service✨👏🏻🩵
Very deep flavor, large menu but not too large that they don’t do good food. They’re still authentic and taste as close as it gets to Northern Thai. I recommended trusting the chef specials and the servers.

food not worth the price point although above avg and interesting and unique diversity of food. energy felt pretty cookie cut and strained; vibes were just off
stingy: wont give extra garnishing without charging +$1 for takeout and give VERY little while dining in. territorial about their bathrooms lol: one of my friends dined in and left for a minute only for the owner to deny her from using the restroom. a worker had to intervene for my friend to use it.
Quaint little spot serving authentic Thai cuisine. Cycled 70 miles from Dyker Heights & decided to grab an evening bite & drink.
Had the Khao Soi Chiang Mai as main dish. Coconut shrimp is phenomenal appetizer. The hot sake went well with the curry flavors. I would have gotten the bottled beer but $8 is such a waste, Sake it is.
Indoor is tight & cozy. Outdoor is a bit more car traffic. Would return again to try the duck & other curry flavors 👍👍
I ordered the boat noodles, and I'm not exaggerating when I say it was life changing. It's been nearly a week and I still can't stop thinking about how delicious it was. When I tasted my first spoonful of that spicy, dark, fragrant, rich, flavorful broth, my wife said she saw a look in my eyes that she's never seen before. It was love at first bite. My only "complaint" is that the portion was huge; I was already full halfway through the bowl, but I dutifully continued eating until it was gone because it would have been a crime to let it go to waste. Unfortunately I didn't have any room left for dessert. The table next to us ordered mango sticky rice and it looked amazing! Guess I'll have to go back to try it.
Came here for a late weekend lunch, and the food was pretty decent. There are extensive vegan and vegetarian options, which is helpful when eating with groups. I got their "summer special" of crab curry with rice noodles; the curry was flavorful with just the right amount of heat, and there was a good amount of crab. We also got mango sticky rice for dessert; the mango was perfectly ripe and sweet, while the rice and soft and warm -- it all came together very nicely.
We went here over the weekend. Had coconut shrimp, a fish dish and pad thai. The food wasn't good. It lacks flavor and the noodles were mushy. The service was par. The waitress didn't seem happy serving us. I wouldn't recomemnd this place or plan to go back.
Great food in Soho ever !!!
My go to place for pineapple fried rice.
Love the lowkey but authentic vibe restaurant gives as well as reasonable portion compare to price. We got food as pick-up and the experience was smooth. Food was authentic and tasty though the Sai Oua lacks in flavor a bit. Overall a good meal and a good choice for those in neighborhood looking for an authentic northern style Thai food.
Known for their Northern Thai food and Chiang Mai, this restaurant boasts a wide variety of dishes that are delicious and filling!
Would recommend their house Khao Soi Chiang Mai, the Prikking Moo Grob (crispy pork belly), and the Pad Prik Sod Moo (tender chicken), although honestly, I can't wait to come back and try all their dishes.
Their specialty is Zha Jein, a northern Thai beef tartare that has 3 chili peppers next to it. And it is QUITE spicy, but sooo goood.
They recently have 2 cocktails that are absolutely delicious. The Lin-Ping with lychee and black salt is my preferred of the two, and surprisingly not as sweet.
It's a small restaurant, so it can be hard to find a table, but it's well worth it. The servers are all so attentive, constantly refilling the water cups and checking in on how we were doing.
Note for groups of 6 more, the gratuity is already included.
Money back now
Need my money back
This restaurant claims they are ACCIDENTALLY charging people twice several months after they ate here. How do you accidentally do that to multiple people??
Doesn’t make sense.
Smells like fraud to me!!
Maybe they will go out of business soon. Beware!!!!!!!!!!!!
They stole money from my bank account 3 months after i dined here.
This place fraudulently charged my card for no reason. I only went there one time & used my card. Two months later another charge appeared out of the blue. Beware!
Caused fraudulent charges on my debit card months later after eating there once that I now have to dispute.
I ordered the Khao soi and it was so delicious! I ended up here since my choice was so packed and I’m so glad I ate here instead. It has become my fave Thai spot in the city and I can’t wait to go back!
Absolutely blown away by this gem of a Thai restaurant in NY! 🍲 It’s best tasting Thai food I’ve had in the city, hands down. The spices and flavors are on point, creating an unforgettable culinary experience. The cozy and quaint ambiance, paired with great music, makes it the perfect spot to unwind and enjoy a fantastic meal. Highly recommend! 🌟
ribs was good, but the rice it came with was too dry and lumpy. they also serve rice from a plastic bag inside a bamboo container. the bamboo container i liked, the plastic that probably got into the rice, i really didn't appreciate.
Big portions!
This casual spot has such great food we came here twice in two days. I don't live fried food, but the Rangoon was cooked to perfection, light and crispy. Got the boat noodles and it was flavorful and enough for two meals. Fast service and nice vibes
Lan Larb Chiang Mai is a hidden gem in a neighborhood full of restaurants that are more interested in being trendy or instagrammable. The flavors here are incredible, blowing the competition out of the water. The Tom Yum soup is creamy and refreshing, among the best I've ever had. The beef basil has a great spicy kick and fresh veggies. The staff is super friendly and welcoming. The only downside was the sticky rice, which tasted a bit off and sour. But with reasonable prices and amazing food, I can’t wait to come back and try more from the menu.
Amazing!
The Thai people I've interacted with have always been honest and hospitable. I expected no differently when I came to dine here.
Mysteriously, my credit card charge did not register for several months after I dined here. It suddenly appeared but with a significantly heftier tip. This has never happened to me before. Good thing I found the receipt because I disputed the charge and it was a big hassle.
If this was an honest mistake, the owner should reach out to me to offer an apology. Otherwise, this is a real new low.
Amazing prices for fantastic food - I’d return for sure. Try some of the Chefs specialities
The food was good but this one server really tainted my experience to dine there ever again. She was SO RUDE from the moment I walked in and asked for a table. I ordered the wrong soup and politely asked if it was possible for them to change it, otherwise I will eat what I accidentally ordered. She brought the item that I actually did want and abruptly and aggressively put it on the table and said "NEXT TIME YOU HAVE TO SAY YOU WANT TOM KHA" 😅 I have never felt so unwelcomed and have never been treated this way by a server. I won't be coming back. (I will say that another server took care of us after the nasty one slammed our food on the table. She was very kind, but that doesn't excuse the other server's horrible attitude).
Food was delicious with strong blend of spices that gave the dishes a unique taste.
We ordered/shared the Larb kua Chiangmai (minced beef), Kor Moo Yang (marinated pork), shrimp mango salad, and a thai iced tea.
Ambiance was super cozy! Space is small so expect a wait of 15-20 minutes during dinner time. :)
Great dine in options for gluten free meal. Most of the gluten free items are on the back of the menu. Chill atmosphere and very tasty dishes
Nice experience
Very disappointing food and service. Came based on the good reviews. We felt rushed to finish our food, a waitress kept standing next to our table literally looking into our plates to see when we are finished, they picked up the plates as soon as the last bite was taken and the bill was on the table literally the moment we took the last bite. The food was really the worst Thai I have ever had. The price in the end was totally not worth the food we received, not in quantity and definitely not in quality.
Small Thai place with a massive menu. Also seem to be extremely popular and it is super busy over lunch. Non stop traffic. Good was tasty and fresh. Good lunch option!
Lan Larb Chiang Mai is a pretty solid Thai restaurant with a large menu and decent cocktails. There is not a large beer selection. The food was decent but not amazing, but the prices were decent so that was okay. Ultimately it's not my favorite Thai restaurant in New York City, but it provides serviceable Thai food for those in the area.
We just happened to find this place on passing, and whilst on holiday as much I loved the American food, I fancied something a bit lighter for lunch. Glad we found here, it was very yum! I would recommend. We got the Tom Kha soup, roti and the chicken satay, it was delicious. The lychee drink was refreshing and tasty too. Service was good too.
Delicious! Get the Crying Tiger with sticky rice.
Ribeye steak - delicious ! Sides are mildly spicy, be aware. Only 30$
Fried rice - awesome! Delicious. 13$ Large portion. !!!! Awesome.
Coconut milk shrimp soup is Deeeeeeelicious !
Such great food with the most kind and attentive staff. Food came out pretty quickly and was very delicious, will definitely be coming back!
Amazing! Best Thai in Manhattan!
I’ve been eating at Lan Larb for YEARS and I’ve just realized I never left them a review.
I’m completely obsessed with their Crab Rangoons - I’ve tried many others and never tasted ones as good as theirs. Definitely a highlight for me. I also always order the green curry, pad kee mao and their Thai and green teas. Everything amazing. I honestly haven’t tried a lot of their other dishes (I tend to get stuck with the same order if I like it enough), but I bet they have many other delicious ones as well!
Mediocre food at best. I don’t know how it has such high rating. I got mango salad and boat noodle. Salad was fine. Boat noodle was the worst I’ve ever had. Flavorless soup and tough meat I barely ate it and left. It was a waste of money and a meal.
My go to.place for lunch when I come to the office in SoHo. The quality of their food and the price cannot be beaten. Their lunch specials are amazing!
The cashew chicken recommended by the chef was excellent, as was the green curry and gaeng hoh (sp?).
This place is dope, I highly recommend.
My KHAO SOI CHIANG MAI** Beef (Drunken Noodles) was fireeeeee with the Thai spicy as I requested and I enjoyed it.
My friend had a roster duck and veggies and that was delicioussssssss.
I’ll definitely go back! Keep it up folks 🙏🏽💪🏾❤️
My go to place for lunch. Crab ragoon and the drunk man noodles and the kra praw khai dao with pork over rice.
Love the food, very authentic Thai, I keep come back. And have brought many friends to there too! The shop itself isn't the fancy type, but the food is great!
If you walk by the restaurant, the smell alone will make you want to go in (which is why we came here). We came here on a rainy saturday morning and it was pretty full but there was no wait. We got the Summer Rolls, Tom Yum soup, Gaeng Hung Lay, and Massaman Curry. The pork was so tender and fatty - it really did just melt in your mouth. The curry was also great - the chicken in it looked boring and dry but was actually juicy enough. Also, the cup of Tom Kha portion was kind of large - it could be a small entree or appetizer for two. Plus, all the prices were very affordable - especially for the amount of food we got. Would definitely recommend this place!
Such a great authentic northern Thai resto that caters to specific Asian cravings or general folks who want a hearty Tom kha. We love Thailand street food and got our staples — boat noodles, crying tiger and tried a new dish “Gaeng Hoh” dry curry noddles with braised beef! Delicious but as the server warned, there’s pickled bamboo which gives off a pungent aroma to those not familiar with Asian foods. So not for those with mild tastebuds! But we loved it though. would def love to come back if we lived here!
Рекомендую для любителів тайської кухні. Тут дуже смачно та дешево.
this was the best thai food i ever had in years . i cane all the way from fort lee nj to eat here was amazed the quality of food is excellent
The Khoa Soi and Spicy Basil sautee entree were amazing. We have been craving Thai food since our trip last year and this was very authentic and absolutely delicious. If I lived here I’d be a regular.
This was a great lunch spot.
Atmosphere: It's a pretty small restaurant and is simple. It's a great place for a casual hangout.
Food: The food was excellent! It came out fresh and hot and the lunch special was a great deal. The portions were very reasonable especially for the price.
Service: The service was fast and polite.

Food was mediocre at best. I requested my main dish to be least spicy as possible but nope. They added extra hot peppers on top. I took most of it off before I took the picture but if you look in the picture I put it in my boyfriend's dish (same picture) and there was still some floating in the broth. I was digging out as much hot peppers as I can at the restaurant that my fingers started to burn and no it's not from the heat of the broth. Even when I took it home there was a lot of hot peppers I was still digging out. Still my fingers are burning. Maybe if the they didn't add that additional hot peppers I wouldn't had a problem with it. It definitely won't be as hot as it was when they put the extra hot peppers. But we won't know now.
The ragoon was bland and only taste like cream cheese.
The duck was over cooked and didn't taste like duck. The skin of the duck wasn't crispy but fatty. Usually the skin is easily taken off the fat. Although it was meaty but what good is that if the taste isn'tgood.
The Thai ice tea tasted weird...well not like the other places I had gone.
Very disappointed especially after reading the reviews.
I really hate throwing food away but I will have to throw the rest of my food away after I added more noodles to make it less spicy and it didn't work. There was just too much hot peppers.
Unfortunately I will not be going to this restaurant again. They can't even follow directions. There was no need to add addition hot peppers on top.
This cozy corner Thai soho has been a go-to of mine for a few years. I've gone for both lunch and dinner. Dinner never disappoints. Five stars.
Really great variety of dishes and good spice level. Ambience super laid back and easy to call and book on a Monday night
I’ve tried dozens of Thai places in the city and have visited Thailand (albeit only once). This is the best Thai restaurant I’ve been to, not only in New York but also in the whole country. They have the most authentic Khao Soi I’ve found stateside; it’s fabulous. First time I discovered this place, I came back eight times in two weeks. It’s no frills but quaint and cozy, the staff is friendly, the service is prompt, and the food is outstanding.
Authentic northen thai restaurant. Crab fried rice is good. Tomyum was not the flavor I am used to but was good. Short ribs was too sweet for me
Chiang Mai is my home town. This place is a best choice when I miss my mom dish. I can’t cook my fav dish “Kanom jeen Nam ngiew” by my own because it’s too advance and take time. So this restaurant is my choice. For the people who love Thai food esp. local Northern Thai food, I suggest you to visit here. The service is really good.
The food brings me back to Chiang Mai. Love Northern Thai food - everything our group ordered hit the spot.
My mom and I visited the day after Christmas for my birthday. I had the Tom Kha Kai (with rice noodles on the side because it doesn't come with any noodles or rice) and my mom had the Green Curry. The Tom Kha Kai tasted amazing! Though the serving size originally looked small, it was the perfect amount and the noodles I ordered on the side were more than enough. My mom ordered her green curry in "Thai Spicy" however for her it was not spicy enough and for Thai spicy I agree (I tasted it as well). It was more like a mild than Thai Spicy but it still tastes amazing.
The normal decorations were pleasant and the Christmas decorations were nice as well.
$: for 1 appetizer, 2 main courses, and 1 drink the total came up to UNDER 50$!!
Spicy is not really that spicy…
Everything was just OK. Service was strange they kept only talking to my friend. we got there early and were kinda rushed out altho I get why.
The BEST Thai Food of my life!
Good price and great service
