Step inside, and you'll find yourself transported to the vibrant city of Chiang Mai, where the air is filled with a symphony of fragrant spices and the laughter of locals enjoying authentic Northern Thai cuisine.
The Big Apple! So many places to choose from when dining in New York City, deciding where to go and what cuisine to eat will be your biggest challenge. As luck would have it, we chose Thai and not far from our place in Manhattan we visited Lan Larb Esan, a cozy street front Thai restaurant.
A range of Thai beers and various wines to start with were offered which complemented the food just fine.
For starters we shared spring rolls and a grilled satay chicken. Both were good while the chicken had a lovely spicy gooey dip to be drizzled over enhancing its texture and flavour.
For the mains, we ordered a noodle similar to Pad Thai along with some plain sticky rice and Penang curry.
Overall, the food was lovely and if you are in the area and in the mood for Thai, this New York Times featured cozy place is a good place to visit.
I deleted my last review due to thinking it was too mean, gave them another chance & look. Besides the racist female cashier I thought it couldn’t get any worse. Please eat here at your own risk. Actually don’t eat here. This is sick. & Sad. A ROACH??!!!!!!!!!!!! It’s 2024 & people are still finding ROACHES in their food??? No wonder this place has a B as a Grade. ROACHESSSS IN THE FOOD !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Roaches.
Lovely neighborhood Thai restaurant. Super friendly staffs, lots of choices on the menu. I love everything I ordered, coconut crust shrimp (crispy and perfect with sauce) and papaya salad (fresh and tasty) my favorite drunken noodle and eggplant basil. We also had their taro custard, warm and delicious. Would definitely go back again.
A simple and unpretentious restaurant with very tasty and even exquisite food. Each dish is served very beautifully decorated, which undoubtedly adds to the appetite) I recommend this restaurant to all lovers of delicious Thai cuisine!
Best thai in murray hill, try the northern thai dishes
Highly recommend !! Heard from friends that the place is a must to try. And bang ! their foods were superb and flavorful. I ordered Moo Ping (grilled pork skewer) , Tom Yum Chicken and Beef Shank Soup with sticky rice. They are amazing !!! Love it and definitely come back. So full right now:)
please i am begging u change the pad kee mao recipe back to the original this used to be my favorite restaurant (prayer hands emoji)

Their foods are phenomenal !! Kor Moo Yang was so tasty, Boat noodles soup is always a right decision, especially winter season. Highly recommended !!! Same owner as Lan Larb in Soho.
Very bad experience here ,I love Thai food but this restaurant not professional at all . Service bad and food not good .Few blocks away “VIV “ is the Best Thai restaurant ever .
Had a great meal here! Would come back!
i have been eating here for a decade or so.. not as much in the last few years. sad to say i did not enjoy the lat meal there at all... i ordered pad see ew, spring rolls, tom kha soup, and pad ka na moo krob, . these all should have been rich in flavor, and i swear the only thing that had any taste at all was the tom kha soup. the soup its tasty , very very heavy, and rich - id say its about enough richness for 3-4 people actually!. but the rest was such a disappointment compared to the old days. This was at dinner time too when you woudl expect the A game. My go to lately has been Tue Thai- and its phenomenal..
Drunken noodles was sweet… basic vegetarian options - but they had a lot.
Fast service. No vegetarian “esan” region items, which was why I went.

Lan Larb was a fantastic dining experience. There was a great ambience and the service was friendly and attentive. The food was reasonably priced and very delicious. Will definitely be returning! This is my first Google review.
Incredible
Delicious and very reasonably priced.
Good food, reasonable prices, friendly service, clean. But please improve the terrible indoor air quality! There was a strong smell from cleaning products and the air was stuffy even though I was the only guest. 65 degrees outdoors but 80 degrees inside. Get an air quality monitor, increase ventilation, and stay in the green zone for carbon dioxide (CO2), volatile organics (VOCs), and temperature.
Un. Des moins cher, thaï de Midtown, et franchement hyper bon.
Got the most delicious takeout! The menu is large and has so many delicious options that it was difficult for me to even choose. I settled on the Jungle curry with squid and som tum poo/plara and it was delicious. The crab was so sweet and complimented the salty, crunchy, spicy salad. The curry was very spicy just like I like it, loaded with veggies and calamari, and was a pretty large serving. My photo from my work café does not do it justice. The inside was spacious and looks like it would be a great place to enjoy a dinner out. If i lived locally, I would recommend dining in but the takeout hit the spot and it was hot, fresh, and ready at the time I picked it up. Definitely a major gem in Murray Hill/Kips Bay area :)
Used to love this place but not anymore!! The waiter was super rude and wasn’t kind when greeting us or taking orders. When it came time to pay the bill, my boyfriend paid in cash and the waiter took the money then came back to the table and literally shook the money and asked “is this all you’re going to give me?” Like? And it was a 18% tip….. My bf tipped him more to calm him down. I have never experienced that type of hostility from a waiter it was actually quite scary how angry he was. The wait staff seems quite unhappy it’s sad.

Very happy to eat here
Their tom yum soup & taro custard was delicious!!!!
Spectacular! Noodles are perfectly cooked and richly flavored, tofu is done just right, and vegetables are crisp and juicy. Their weekday lunch special is a wonderful value. This is joining my top go-to Thai places!
Second time here and the food has been incredible both times. First time around ordered the Chicken Pad Thai and today I had the Beef Pad See ew. Not only is the food delicious but the servings are huge for a very affordable price.
Staff has been very friendly and the food is always served quickly. Love this place, think I found my new go to for Thai in the city!
Visited this location for the first time. I had visited their downtown location back in the day multiple times. The food is tasty but not stellar but the price is reasonable for that. And we're in Manhattan after all so my expectations for affordable regional Thai are moderate. Just like in the previous location, the sticky rice was way too hot to handle.
I loved this place! Such delicious food and good service. Also they give you portions according to price. I tried the Pad Thai, Pas see ew. Tom Yum shrimp soup, spring rolls and Tom Kha soup. I recommend everything.
I was a regular customer here until I was about to dine in one day and the older guy normally in the back during the week and there every Sunday, stop to tell me before seating me & my child to “make sure I’m going to tip or order the food to take out.” The disrespect had me furious. Then you ask to speak to a manager they say they don’t have one. He even told the girl up front to say he was a manager when I went the following day to speak to a manager. He’s very disrespectful. Always tipped and brought lunch from here never again.
This is not your usual Thai restaurant. It's Northern Thai, and it's quite different from the usual pad Thai and pad see ew that's common in the usual Thai restaurants. I guess they have to serve it because people expect it in a Thai restaurant. Their curries are a little better but I don't usually order those.
What surprises me most when I look at the reviews is the focus on the price, rather than on the incredible quality of the food. True, the value is amazing ... you can get a good meal for under $15 {lunch specials cost less and are generally ok, but not spectacular} but OMG some of the "Street food", the whole fish {beautifully served} and the duck. There are two kinds, and I'm really not sure which is the better. But it's a nice portion, a half duck, and I usually take some home and get two meals out of it.
I love the beef boat noodle. It's 15 bucks. Amazing amazing amazing
Did I mention the duck? Of course I did. I'm putting this sentence in only for emphasis
The appetizers are pretty good, some better than others. My favorite is the calamari, although the sausage is interesting
I rarely have dessert at Asian restaurants but today, on the advice of the waiter, I tried the banana spring rolls. My partner and I were absolutely stunned.
Did I say anything about the duck?
There are many places where you have to order the right thing. It's not always easy. But this place, which seems never to be crowded, is truly extraordinary. It's my favorite nearby place in Murray Hill.
I hope the lack of crowds doesn't cause them to close. They need more customers. It would be a great shame if they were to fail because people simply order the wrong things
And no, I don't usually write long reviews, and in fact write reviews rarely. I do hope they stay in business for a long time
Great place for a quick lunch or nice dinner. Lunch special is incredible value!
Nice atmosphere, efficient and friendly staff. Decent food. Great value for money.
Pretty tasty food, but unfortunately we got food poisoning from something we ate here.
Went here today for lunch with coworkers. Great lunch specials a good amount to choices from.
No long wait when I ordered for pickup. The food is very tasty.
The worst Thai food I ever had, so from the picture, the chicken is not fresh with pad Thai , the pork belly are so dried and also portion looks like left over, unbelievable and do not waste your money
Didn't have high expectations coming in, but I'm pretty sure I was served instant food...
We ordered take-out. All ( dishes were delicious. The portions are good. Online order is very easy. Delivery was fast and free. Will definitely order again
Beautiful, small, and intimate. They played the nicest music to go with the atmosphere and your meal. The service was so nice, gracious, and polite. If you are a lover of Thai food, you will enjoy this place.
Food is delicious, some of the best Thai I ever had. Delivery was quick and food was super hot when it arrived even in chilly weather!
Spicy authentic Thai food like home.
You can eat authentic Thai food.
Good spot pretty darn tasty
TON of sugar in the pad Thai. First dish I sent back in years.
Order low sugar/no sugar and light sauce and you'll be fine.
freshly prepared, beautifully spiced, and perfectly cooked vegetables (NOT overcooked). Clean food! A new favorite.
Fantastic food, quick and friendly service.
Great Thai place - very friendly staff, and delicious food!
I enjoyed their duck soup. Perfect on a cold day!
Had the green curry. Delicious, spicy, and perhaps a touch too sweet, but probably not. Service was attentive, but not noverbearing. The quality of meal was above and beyond the price paid. Will return.
Cheap, big portions, spicy! This is a neighborhood gem when looking for food Thai food
Every time I come into NYC I have to go to Lan Larb to get the Tom Yum NOODLE soup. One of my favorite dishes ever
A go-to place for my lunch breaks with incredible service and very delicious food. P.S. Check their lunch offer
Had the chicken larb and pork skewers. Both were excellent. Authentic flavors, good service. Will repeat!
Really good restaurant, tasty and quality. Service just perfect. Quick and delicious!!! Thanks
Best thai curry I've ever eaten. Tap water with ice for free, very moderate food prices. Staff super friendly, food was served within 10 minutes. Very highly recommended!
Truly excellent. Best I’ve had since going to Thailand. Would give 10 stars if I could
Awesome food! This is my go-to place for Thai food👌🏼
a very cozy spot. came here at around 7:30 on a saturday and was able to get a table for 5 almost immediately. everything we had was really good, although i preface with saying i don’t have super high standards. thai tea was also super good!! the prices seemed very reasonable and on the lower side of thai places i’ve been to in nyc. not too loud either and easy to have conversation. service was also extremely fast
La comida deliciosa y a buen precio. Aunque no sonríen mucho te atienden súper rápido y están al pendiente de lo que pides, por lo que te sientes a gusto en el lugar.
Always try to explore and look for Southeast Asian food whenever I travel. Wow, this is a hidden gem. The food is simply amazing! Some dishes are better than those I had in Thailand.
The first taste of the tomyam soup was like a flavor bomb that exploded in your mouth. The sourness, spiciness and sweetness just came together perfectly. The chicken skewer is ok but the dipping sauce is what makes the dish. Decided to try the drunken noodles instead of the pad Thai. Totally the right choice - the spices just elevated a simple stir fried noodle dish.
If the spice doesn't make you sweat, the visit to the washroom will make you sweat since they crank up the temperature to 100F.
Super feines Pat Thai und sehr gutes rotes Curry. Kommen gerne wieder
Most authentic Thai roast duck curry with pineapple panang sauce I've had outside Thailand. Well executed and piping hot.A full half roast and sliced crispy duck portion at a great price.
Amazing variety of delicious Thai dishes! Would recommend if you are in the area!
Mejor pedir la comida para llevar por que, al parecer,el camarero tiene mucha prisa para que comas y cobrarte y le viene mejor el delivery......
Comida MUY buena pero servicio PÉSIMO
Best thai restaurant in Murray Hill! I have been coming here for the past 4 years and highly recommend. The food is very authentic and delicious. Service is great and fast. Prices are reasonable with large portions.
Great Northern Thai food with strong flavors, good portions, decent prices and a nice collection of items. They have a very good weekday lunch deal ($12 main course+appetizer). Definitely recommend.
We got the Beef lan larb, the chicken skewers and the spicy basil fried rice and all three were great, especially the namesake lan larb.
The Thai iced tea and iced coffee were also quite a good. they do serve wine and beers as well.
Taste is great and very authentic
My go-to Thai food. I always order the PadKheeMao. I've ordered other dishes before but I found the padk hee Mao (drunken noodles) to be my favorite! I gave a 4 star because few times the taste isn't consistent, sometimes too salty/oily. But I always end up ordering from Lan Larb.
Real deal, incredible authentic food.
Was good 👍
Lovely neighborhood Thai restaurant.
Delicious, quick and fairly priced. Have been going here for years and Lan Larb never lets me down.
Generous portions at excellent prices. Papaya salad is a must-have as well as drunken noodles. Responsive servers always ready to refill your water cups and check in to see how food is.
Very cheap and affordable lunch menu but the quality was accordingly. I had the chicken cashew sauce and to start with the temperature of it wasn’t consistent which made me think that they premade it and just heated it for me . Some bites of the chicken just didn’t taste good .
Amazing food! I love their massaman curry, I keep coming back to order it.
Tried several dishes and they were all delicious - would definitely recommend this place.
I've been looking for a great Thai place in the nabe and found this one just a few weeks ago. The food here is so yummy! Kind of spicy but flavors are insane. Thank you Lan Larb!
We had the tamarind duck. It was delicious. It was delivered hot and the skin was still crispy.
Food was delicious!
Super gegeten. Een enorme smaakexplosie van een goed niveau. Goede service en heel netjes
Amazing food. Never disappoints.
Love.
The pad kee mao turned me into a regular.
Fried rice is awesome! The lunch special is an amazing price, great customer service and vibes
Great Food at reasonable prices
Great spot. Lovely people and good value.
I'm a big fan of this spot. Great flavors with plenty of vegetarian options. Value-wise, it's pretty tough to beat the lunch specials!
Consistent quality food! Love this place
Excellent service, the kind you expect from the people of Thailand. The food was to a high standard for a very fair price to New York standards.
Edit: Just visited Lan Larb again after 5 years and the quality is still fantastic, which ensures consistency. The staff was again very friendly and the girl serving me did her job very well. Again, a fantastic dinner experience.
I like the fried rice
Food is very delicious, don't hesitate on ordering the cheesecake for dessert! The dining area is impressivly clean.
Tasty food, quick delivery, recommend this place for tasty Thai
Fast service on my lunch hour and great quality affordable Thai.
Super flavorful solid authentic northern thai food. Make sure to explore the more traditional items side of their menu! We tried a larb dish, a yum dish, and a crispy rice croquettes with fermented pork - all 3 were solid and spicy 😋 also got a pineapple fried rice for something sweet and I swear it had a wok hei flavor to it even! I'm so glad this is right by my workplace going to be coming here often now. Service was also top notch, thank you!!
Larb chicken was amazing, service quick and friendly. Highly recommended!
Good local spot, curry was outstanding!
Delicious and authentic food; reasonable prices and generous portion sizes. cute little restaurant perfect for casual date night. great service too! absolutely will be back.
Very good food
This is the most authentic and hands down best Thai spot in NYC! I grew up here and I’ve had a a lot of Thai food but nothing compares to the flavor and richness in the food made here. I’ve visited Thailand this past summer and I’ve been really craving the authentic flavor that I was never able to find back in NYC. I’m soooo glad I found this spot. Everything is freaking amazing, but I’ll have to share my fav, the papaya salad with noodles!!! Ughhh I dream about it!
Great food with a smile, ordered lunch special to go food came out fast and tasted great.
Always excellent. Reliable, delicious and quick. Highly recommend this local favorite place.
Dined in. Love that my dish came with rice and was really tasty for only ~$17 after taxes/tip. Hard to complain about that nowadays in NYC!
Food and service always outstanding!
Was visiting from out of town and visited this cute little Thai pIace. Loved the delicious pad thai, basil stirfry and Thai iced tea. The wait staff was also friendly. Had a great time
We had the red curry, lychee thai tea and chicken pad thai. All very good flavor and great price! A bit difficult to walk to but worth the effort!
Really delicious and fresh, at the sametime not noisy with reasonable price
Pat se u and pannag curry was so good
My new favorite place in the neighborhood to get Thai Esan food. Their Moo Tod is flavorful but wished they served that as an appetizer without rice as I prefer to eat it with sticky rice. Definitely an authentic place if you feel like branching out and trying Northern Thai cuisine. Get some beers and have some yum nam and sausage to go along with it.
Best Thai food I’ve ever had. True issan cooking has finally entered New York. Try the nam khao and pad se ew, perfection of flavor and spice.
I work in the area and haven’t found a place that I can regularly order from until now! The food is phenomenal. I especially am a fan of the duck noodle soup.
I am super impressed. The food is incredibly authentic really tasty. They also go us in right before closing. So appreciated it.
This Yum Woon Sen here is the best I’ve ever had.
The staffs are so kids-friendly and we were comfortable to have great foods with our daughter.I can’t wait for visiting again.
Pleasant experience.
Excellent food!
Thai atmosphere.
