Joyful Authentic Thai Dining in a Dazzling Siam Setting
We came in for a night cup after a failed meal at Miriam’s across the street. The bartender was the most welcoming person and attentive.
We ordered two dishes and both were splendid and delightful. We hang out at the bar for a bit because the atmosphere was so cozy.
I highly recommend this place. I wish I saw it before the other one we visited earlier.
Love the papaya salad and prawn cake! Also the Thai iced tea, love it’s not too sweet. It was already busy right when they open in the morning. The food was great, solid flavors, like the appetizer better than the entrees (we ordered the duck and crab fried rice). Overall, a decent spot to check out if you’re nearby.
Decent quality food and cocktails. Great ambience, service, and presentation. For the price charged, there's room to increase both quality and serving size. The cocktails were creatively made and well presented well but again, not enough alcohol in them for the price tag.
I do not recommend the papaya salad here.
Authentic dishes and beautiful decor. Service staff need to be more attentive and friendly. Dishes are absolutely delicious.
I suggest making reservations since often times this establishment is busy and there is a small wait.
There was one dish, I can’t recall the name that wasn’t great. It was noodles with a variety of sauces and one that appeared purple like. Not a favorite.
If you want some authentic dishes than I recommend visiting Sala Thai. The decor in the main room is beautiful and detailed.
Wow!!! I love thai food, and this was great! We ordered the summer rolls and calamari for appetizers and were blown away! The mint in the roll was spot on and so fresh. The entrees were perfect. I don't know the name of mine, but if you show the picture the staff know immediately. Speaking of the staff, everyone was so nice and helpful throughout the experience. The desserts were also good, not sweet at all. I took our server Mark's recommendations for drinks. When they say it's spicy, they mean it! They were all good anyway! Overall, I can't wait to go back!
Passed this restaurant for another down the street previously so decided to give it a try this time. The entrance does not do justice for Sala Thai. A sliding door brings you to a bar but up the stairs transports you to a quiet dining room with a great atmosphere and decor.
Had the crispy duck salad which was amazing, as well as the Panang Curry which was equally great. We were however divided over the the Pad Thai Bolan. While tasty, it just felt as though something was missing. Still cant figure it out.
Nothing but praise for the restaurant, from the servers, to the decor, and the food.
Solid classics when it comes to food. I liked it. Nice service, good portions.
Great time food and service from winner
Decent quality food and cocktails. Great ambience, service, and presentation. For the price charged, there's room to increase both quality and serving size. The cocktails were creatively made and well presented well but again, not enough alcohol in them for the price tag.
I do not recommend the papaya salad here.
Appetisers were too sweet for my Indian palette. However the other times were amazing and delicious. Great drinks too.
Will come back!
This place was beautiful and the food was incredible! Pad Thai was flavorful and the pork was wonderfully cooked. The standout by far was the Winter Special, Khao Tom Hang. I’d eat this everyday if I could. They need to put this on their menu forever.
Food is not clean! We had dinner tonight at Sala Thai. My daughter became very sick right after, throwing up and having diarrhea. Me and my husband are fine. We didn't share food, that was the Kao Soy that my daughter had.
Unquestioningly the best Thai food we’ve ever had. Truly out of this world. We all loved our dishes but the best was our daughter’s dish Kao Su Curry.
Great family lunch. Came in February, and it afforded us an opportunity to peacefully consider what type of puffer coat should be worn in Manhattan while visiting. Normally a hot button topic in our family, but the food is so great we were able to hash it out serenely.
Attached is the moment our son realized the drink he ordered looked a little bit girly.
It was ok
A way to dine and enjoy what you have.
Tasty, lotus root salad was good. Our waitress, Best, was the best.
Good food, well priced menu, good ambiance, and noise on the louder side! Made reservations for 7:30 pm and were seated promptly at our time. Place was packed to capacity. Good bar, and pretty tight seating at this rather dimly lit place with noise levels of diners easily beating that of the music.
Ordered a few things from the winter specials menu which included a very tasty Corn Soup Bowl ($15) which came with a buttery garlic bread and the Tofu Prig Klua ($15) which was a tasty appetizer, and Tom Yum Koong Cup ($9). Our mains included the Green Curry with Tofu ($19), Crab Fried Rice ($24) with a generous portion of crab meat, Pad Krapraw ($18), and Kea Mao ($22). We chose a medium spice level on our mains, and the food had a good spice kick to it.
Food arrives within 25 minutes or ordering, and service was excellent overall. Will definitely visit again to satisfy our thai food cravings!
The most delicious and authentic Thai food we have enjoyed in a long time!
The service was beyond expectations! We were not rushed, just catered to as if we were the only customers they had.
It was amazing a great experience
This is one of my favorite Thai restaurants in NYC for dining in, but for some reason the delivery is always disappointing, so now I only eat here if I’m dining in.
Hands down, one of the best Thai restaurants in NYC! The restaurant is beautifully decorated, with an ambiance that instantly transported me back to Thailand—it felt like dining inside a temple. The staff were incredibly gracious and hardworking, which made the experience even more memorable.
For drinks, I had a Thai iced tea, which was smooth, mildly sweet, and perfectly balanced. My husband tried the Siamule, which was also enjoyable.
For appetizers, we started with the fried calamari. Initially, it was just okay, but the dipping sauce elevated it to another level. The highlight of the meal, however, was the Thai crepe dumplings. They were absolutely perfect—the wrapper had an incredible texture, and the filling was a delightful combination of tender, crunchy, and flavorful.
For entrées, I had the short rib panang curry, and it was phenomenal. The short rib was incredibly tender, and the buttery, rich sauce made every bite melt in my mouth. My husband had the basil fried rice with crispy duck, which was perfectly cooked—the duck was both crispy and moist, a tough balance to achieve.
The portions are generous, and the prices are extremely reasonable. I can easily see myself making the trip from South Brooklyn to the Upper West Side just to eat here again. I highly recommend it and can’t wait to return. The food and atmosphere brought me right back to my time living in Thailand!
Staff is about the most obnoxious I have encountered in all my time in NYC. The food is good - not amazing. Perfectly adequate. It's cheap, which is nice. But the attitude just isn't worth it -- especially with the folks who work the host stand.
we went for lunch (party of 6) we made a reservation in advance, and had a great lunch! we ordered some appetizers (i remember a great tofu and a garlic eggplant) we had pad thai, kee mao and more stuff and everything wwas delicious! good portions and fair price! had some tea. No desserts but maybe next time! will definitely recommend and also my friends had a baby with stroller and they were very helpful and accommodating!
This is one of my favorite Thai restaurants in NYC. One complaint though, please stop putting sugar in dishes like Kaprow
Good, quick, and tasty Thai spot.
Rude staff. From the short girl receiving guests with her napoleon complex to the staff at the pick up/take out window...all rude. Is like they're fed up with life & are quick to snap at ppl. And don't ask them to repeat something you couldn't understand because their english is bad....run! 🤣 ....at least the waiters were nice. Food took eons...place is not the cleanest and is cramped.

Fast and friendly service. Perfect portions. Pad Thai was great.
好吃😋
而且不怎么贵的同时氛围也很不错
Food was delicious, atmosphere was nice.
Nice restaurant, beautiful ambiance and great authentic thai food. If you are sensitive to spice, order mild.
Amazing! I really liked it. You can taste how they combine the salty and sweet in the food, it was my first time trying Thai food and dind’t decepcionate me, it s a great time also the guy in the service desk told us that we have two hours for stay, that’s a good time to enjoy.
food service atmosphere and prices all fantastic. spent roughly $50 per person who each had about 2 drinks, an entree and a shared appetizer
맛있어요 ! 강추 !!
Food was served cold- had to send back to heat up. Asked for hot pepper several times and didn’t get it until I was finished the meal.
My friend and I decided to check out Sala Thai before going to AMNH. We made a reservation for 11:30am on a Sunday, which is when they open. It was slow for the first half hour, but then it got PACKED. The interior is stunning (minus the plastic glass table partitions), and the paintings on the walls reminded us of the paintings around the temples in Thailand that tell stories. The ambiance and prices are more suited for a fancier occasion.
My friend and I ordered the curry puffs ($14), khao soi with chicken ($22), and massamun curry with chicken ($20). These are extremely high price points, which are slightly justified by the ambiance and location. The curry puffs come with 4 puffs, and the pasty was light and delectable. I would have liked slightly more flavor and texture for the curry itself, since it felt like a paste. If things have flavor, I don't tend to use sauce, but my friend tried the sauce and mentioned it elevated the dish. My friend said that the khao soi was not particularly outstanding, but it was tasty and had the flat noodles. I also found the curry to have nice flavor and appropriate heat, and I liked that the potatoes were able to melt in your mouth. Again, everything was good, but not amazing enough to justify the price.
Service was highly attentive. Our waters were constantly refilled, and we actually had to ask for the check instead of them pressuring us out because they were getting busy. Our server also did multiple check backs to make sure that the food was to our taste. Overall, I do think this is a solid spot in the area, but it is pretty pricey. I wouldn't recommend it unless it's a fancy occasion or you have business in the area.
Great place, great food, friendly staff.
Authentic Thai with an amazing dining area and attentive service. The food has amazing flavor and the service was the equivalent of most Asian restaurants. Loved the dining area and the seats were close but not intrusive. They did ask us if we were done several times which felt rushed.
Incredible experience, wonderful food, and great service by our server "trainee".
Excellent Thai place with exceptional food quality and taste. Prices are very reasonable. A must try when around. This will be a regular for us now. Superb experience.
Incredible food
Great food and experience. Went to a comedy show at the beacon and here after! Won’t regret it
Very tasty, great atmosphere, friendly staff
The prawn mango salad and green curry were absolutely delicious—I keep thinking about them! Fresh ingredients, balanced flavors and hearty portions with plenty of heat in both dishes. Washed down with yuzu lemonade, ugh! Perfection! Lovely ambiance and calm lighting, the carved wood panels really transport you and the staff is great too. I love you Sala Thai!
The lunch special was such a great deal and the food was incredible! Atmosphere and service couldn’t have been better :)
I’ve had birthday parties here, family gatherings, pre-show dinners, post-show dinners, and it never disappoints. The food, service, drinks, and atmosphere keep me coming back.
This review is more about the staff that work at this place.
Most of them are rude, standoffish, and nasty and it just kills how delicious the food is.
I have a few times went and picked up food a friend ordered for us ahead and every time they leave people picking up food and the delivery drivers out in the cold and treat them like garbage.
The door outside got stuck and none of the employees could get it open. A delivery driver finally got it open for them after them ignoring him standing in the cold, and instead of thanking him I watched them then recline the door in his face and make him stand in the cold as we all watched in disbelief.
They really don’t deserve your money regardless of how good the food is. They keep mean, insecure employees as the faces of their establishment.
Nice and warm welcome place spot on UWS for Date night dinner @ Thai place me and my boyfriend very happy with the food and atmosphere so much
Especially our superb service of all staff especially our server Cream which so attentive always keep coming for check and make sure everything perfect. Thanks so much ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Anyway don’t forget to try the dessert so amazing and great drink from the Bar. Thank to our Bartender Pang for the great drink and your service. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
The service was great, the food is one of the best I have tried in New York City!
Amazing! Don’t miss this if you are in NYC.
맛있다는 리뷰가 많아 기대하고 갔는데 그래서 그런지 너무 실망했습니다. 특히 팟타이가 너무 맛없었어요 ㅠㅠ
If you ever in NYC and need to have Thai food . This place will never ever ever disappoint any aspect of great Thai food ! 10/10! 🇹🇭 💯
Our Server is great, she is really helpful, but hoster even give us attitude on face, maybe he is not in a working mood
Host had a bad attitude and a long face.
The Pla Muk Tod calamari appetizer was absolutely delicious!
KING OF THAI ! They say you never know what is just around the corner. My wife and I were staying in an apartment at the Hotel Beacon on Broadway loving every minute of our 8 day vacation in Manhattan, New York. Up til Thursday, Sept 30th ( our 6th day ) we had dined out a number of times for lunch but only once for dinner. After a huge day visiting the Statue of Liberty we decide to go Asian for dinner. My wife found a couple of excellent restaurants not far from our hotel and after I checked them out we decided to phone Sala Thai to make a dinner reservation for 6.30pm. Meanwhile I tossed down a very good hazy juicy IPA to knock out the cobwebs and then we left for Sala Thai which was only a 2 minute walk JUST AROUND THE CORNER ! When we arrived around 6.15pm the sidewalk outside the restaurant was a hive of activity. There were a number of tables set up on a quaint sidewalk patio but we almost always prefer to dine inside. I had a friendly chat with a lovely hostess named Pam to make sure we were seated inside. We walked past a full bar and up a few stairs to a row of tables separated by perspex screens. We made ourselves at home while admiring the beautiful decor adorning the walls throughout the restaurant dining area. Our chairs were very comfortable. A charming guy named Beck politely introduced himself as our server for the evening. Glasses of iced water plus a filled carafe soon came out. We checked out the dinner menu which threw up a few new challenges at us....a quite different Thai menu to the West Coast cousins or even back home in Australia. Gee they even had a handful of non Thai beers on their list. I asked for the All Day IPA ( it was Founder's All Day IPA - 4.7% abv ) on tap while my wife asked for a Thai Iced Tea. The Grilled Scallop Appetizer ( Sear marinated Scallops in skewers with Thai sweet and spicy sauce ) looked a winner. My wife loves beef short rib so the SHORT RIB BEEF PANANG Entree ( Braised Tender Short Rib, String Bean and Sweet Potatoes in Panang Curry Sauce ) was her choice while I am a mixed seafood nut and went for the TALAY THAI Entree ( Shrimp, Squid, Scallops, New Zealand Mussels, Chili, Long Chili, Chili Jam, Coconut Milk and Basil Leaves ). My ice cold All Day IPA arrived and tasted fine for a very mild IPA amp my wife loved her creamy Thai Iced Tea. Shortly after our Grilled Scallop Appetizer hit our table courtesy of Bo the cool food runner. There were 8 medium size scallops divided on 2 skewers plus a pretty side salad. The Thai Sweet and Spicy Sauce was killer good and the scallops were gently seared to perfection. SENSATIONAL IN A WORD ! We were very impressed so far. The interior of the restaurant has a classy Bohemian look and a happening now vibe. Our magnificent looking entrees arrived together....mmm which one looked better ? I will call it a tie for the GOLD MEDAL ! My wife was in raptures enjoying her perfectly cooked Short Rib Beef Panang...the tender beef literally fell off the bones. Drenched in the Panag Curry Sauce it tasted like A SLICE OF HEAVEN...I tasted it ! My Tala Thai seafood combo was as good as it gets...everything tender nothing chewy. I LOVED IT ! The restaurant was really pumping by now...filled to capacity inside and out.....THIS WAS A PLACE TO BE ! And then our favorite word came up..DESSERT. I asked Beck our kind server for the dessert menu which featured more than the usual suspects. Of course I am a big time sucker for FRIED BANANA WITH COCONUT ICE CREAM so that's what I ordered. My wife was enthralled to see CHOCOLATE LAVA CAKE ( served with Tahitian Ice Cream ) and went with that. And very soon Bo the cool food runner delivered our 2 desserts. They look BEAUTIFULLY PLATED and tasted simply extraordinary. My wife could taste creamy Thai Tea inside the chocolate lava cake..a beautiful surprise. My Fried Banana with Coconut Ice Cream was way different to our West Coast model....it was like a big banana fritter oozing with chocolate sauce. OMG was it good ! We kept patting each other on the back for choosing this amazing restaurant !
The food was delicious and service was great! Just when entering the restaurant there are a lot of delivery people waiting to receive their orders, bit chaotic.
Had dinner there with some friends after visiting a museum
Good food , good service.
Good food, authentic, reasonable prices
Really good panang curry and thai fried rice! Nice atmosphere and very clean inside. It's quite popular and busy so didn't linger after getting our check. Overall great time!
i had a bad experience yesterday there. And this place is getting worse.
And it’s already the *second time*, so I decided to update my 5 star review to a 2 stars.
We literally ordered two pad kee mao, and our food took 1 hour to be ready. The server barely came to see us to say anything, and was very not receptive to the fact that it was getting late, and that I was having a bad experience.
It’s not the first time I see servers there being a little bit too over confident (not to say careless), I keep coming back as long the experience is good overall. But the past 2 times were very bad, I wasn’t even hungry anymore… and the sever was so whatever, way below NYC standards or service. There are so many Thai restaurants in NYC, not only Sala Thai and Soothr.
I used to go once sometimes twice a week…
🐐🐐
The food is nice however I’m surprised the Thai milk tea is just unpleasant to drink. It’s such a weird bitterness and sweetness combinations that just didn’t work together. I tried a lot of Thai milk tea in the past and this one is not it. Very disappointing. It would be great if they can change their recipe.
The best Thai food I have had anywhere in America or NYC
Popular Thai spot, food is great, service is meh.
Also another shocker... Rated B!!! Used to get delivery for lunch, decent food at a decent price... Now that I did a walk in and saw the rating, I need to find another place that is clean. Staff is friendly and.noce decor, but... Not clean... To me a deal breaker...
CLASSY THAI RESTAURANT ! My wife and I were enjoying our recent fun filled 8 day vacation in Manhattan, New York. On our very last evening in Manhattan, New York we chose to have dinner here again after a sensational dinner the night before. Our meals were unforgettable and the service was even better so very good reasons to come back. We made a dinner reservation for 6.30pm on Friday, Oct 1st just to be sure we would get a table. Even though we were staying at the Hotel Beacon on Broadway a short 2 minute walk away we saw how busy this restaurant could get the previous night. After leaving our hotel we stopped by Jacques Torres Chocolates to pick up a few goodies before arriving at Sala Thai at 6.10pm...a tad early. Ace the sensationally attired host looked after us totally with a cosy indoor table virtually where we sat the evening before. THANKS ACE ! As we tend to do when revisiting a restaurant we wanted to try different items on the menu. AND WE DID ! We were hoping to score Beck our incredible server from the previous night but sadly he was looking after other tables. Our female server for this evening was named B and she did a pretty good job keeping us happy. First up some iced waters and I asked for an Allagash WHITE - Belgian Style Wheat Beer. Meanwhile we poured over the menu looking for that SOMETHING NEW. My wife decided to try the HOIJOR Appetizer ( Deep fried tofu skin stuffed with ground pork, shrimp and crab meat..served with plum sauce ) while I got adventurous with the KHA NOM JEEB Appetizer ( Thai Steamed Dumplings...Ground Chicken and Shrimp, Eggs, Jicama, Shiitake Mushrooms, Tangy Soy Sauce ). My ice cold Allagash WHITE and a chilled glass came out quickly and tasted fine. For ENTREES my wife chose PAD THAI with Shrimp ( Rice Noodles, Beansprouts, Scallions, Red Onion, Bean Curd, Egg, Peanuts ) while I went with the dish my wife loved the previous night....SHORT RIB BEEF PANANG ( Braised Tender Short Rib, String Bean and Sweet Potatoes in Panang Curry Sauce ). Our appetizers arrived after a few minutes courtesy of Bo the sharp dressed food runner. We both thought our appetizers were well executed but we enjoyed the Grilled Scallop Appetizer from the previous night much more. The restaurant was packed to the rafters again and our server B was running around everywhere. Bo the cool food runner delivered our nice looking entrees together. My Short Rib Beef Panang tasted very good...tender beef literally falling off the bone. HARD TO COMPLAIN when it's that good. On the other hand my wife was a little disturbed with the strange big clump presentation of her Pad Thai with Shrimp. I had never seen it presented in that manner but maybe it's local authentic. WHATEVER ! My wife thought her meal was on the dry side. I tried to find our female server B to order another Allagash WHITE beer but she went missing in action. In the end I grabbed Beck our server from the previous night. My ice cold Allagash WHITE and a chilled glass eventually came out but too late to enjoy with my meal. Overall not as much fun as our first dinner here..some of our meal selections were not good choices and that was our fault. However we wouldn't hesitate to return !
Food is good. Duck is good. Price is fairly reasonable. It’s a little crowded and not a perfect place to talk though.
Incredibly reasonably priced for Manhattan. Even better, most definitely best Thai we had since visiting Thailand. Would definitely recommend. Good atmosphere and great service too. We will be back next time we're in town.
Delicious meal and efficient and kind service.
Best Thai food on the Upper West Side! So many options, everything was delicious. The decor and ambiance are super cute too!
Very good food, many vegetarian options, service was great. Clean restrooms which are always a plus!
The covid-era plastic clear window dividers and too-tightly packed 2-top tables is not a fun atmosphere for dine-in, but the takeout food is good. Highly recommend the crab omelette over rice/siracha at lunchtime, or the eggplant basil chicken wok dish. The service is mediocre, and don't try calling them on the phone - they're very unhelpful and you're better off ordering online.
Terrible terrible customer service. Over an hour delivery time. Never order here. Horrible
My favorite Thai place in the UWS
Fantastic Thai food.
We keep coming back. Probably our 4th time and everyone we come with- love it!
Also great prices!!
Very tasty food and great cocktails.
Wonderful staff.
I’d argue better than Thai Diner or Thai Villa. Its incredible.
Ótima comida.
Great thai food
Great place for a nice & calm lunch.
Siempre es muy bueno regresar. Es de nuestros restaurantes favoritos del vecindario.
I am a concierge in New York City and I have been dining at Sala Thai for the past 5 years. While I have eaten at many restaurants in the city, Sala Thai is the perfect blend of chic, boutique and down-home charm. Each time I have dined, I experienced amazing service, delectable food and great atmosphere. I want to speak of a recent time in May 2024 where their consistent service shined. I came with a director friend from Nigeria who was in town for a film festival, and it was 9:45pm and they were closing at 10:30pm. The host at the door was so kind and I apologized for coming late. We were quickly sat and had our drinks and appetizer within minutes. Our server was kind, attentive and did not make us feel rushed at all. My colleague was blown away by the service and the food. Thank you Sala Thai ownership and staff!
Beautiful place with delicious foos (Tom Yum soup and the Drunken Noodkes are highly recommended)!
Always reliably good! My favourite spot in the area.
Special Thanks to Anne. She’s very nice and professional
Amazing authentic Thai food! One of the best in the city! Their mocktails are delicious!
This is a great Thai restaurant, awesome service, multiple dishes from Thai food and in summer, they have chef's special dishes too.
We had the best experience with our amazing server, Winnie!! Will definitely be back!
Unbelievably impatient host. Food is just ok.
The food and hospitality at Sala Thai was excellent. We went for dinner with friends and family and had a great experience. I would definitely recommend this restaurant.
Best Thai in NYC!
Bien
Excellent service from store front team to serving team. And the food, especially the "Street food" menu, is incredible at excellent price points. Well cooked and yummy rice. And a fried egg makes everything tastier, especially with crispy pork 😀. Waited a little for seating but the constant flow of diners and take-out patrons simply reflects how great is this place. Will definitely return! 5 stars! I would highly recommend reservation for maximal time saving and best when the entire party is there on time for seating. Very very busy place, deservingly.
We have been to the restaurant several times in the past few years. This was the first time we encounter rude service. The food was still very tasty but the bad service ruined everything. The female server was impatient even when we started ordering. Whenever she came to the table she was rude, showing dismay and impolite expressions and gestures. Finally when we asked her to box the leftovers and suggested that she could make another trip since she complained she couldn’t get all the plates in a single trip. We were being considerate despite her rudeness all night. She then turned around and shook her head. It was completely unacceptable. I went to the manager and reported the incidence. She asked the server to come apologize but all she said was sorry it is so busy tonight. It was not even an apology. The whole experience was terrible and even the ten percent discount the manager gave us can not take away the painful experience we had. Too bad. That place used to be our go to Thai restaurant. Perhaps other people will be lucky not to sit at the table assigned to this server. We still like the food but the rude service made it not worthwhile. It will be a long time before we consider going back.
Great food and service. A little loud and crowded.
The Food was ok, but I don’t understand at all the outstanding rating of 4,8.
honestly, going to be hard to find better Thai food!
The food and ambience are fantastic. Their lunch specials are excellent value, offering a salad or soup, a starter, and a main dish—perfect for solo diners wanting variety. We ordered the combo with a salad, steamed dumplings, and massamun curry. To finish, we had the mango sticky rice, which was the highlight of the meal and quickly became our favorite. Every dish was delicious, but the mango sticky rice truly stood out.
Pickup orders chaotic, 20 min+ late. Staff was rude about it. Food was good.
I’ve been coming to this restaurant for a while now, and it never disappoints! If you're looking for delicious Thai food in UWS, this is the place to go!
Ordered the braised pork belly, 😋..loved it.
Good food but terrible staff- not polite, rigid and unfriendly. I’d not go back.
always excellent! super yummy every time…so reliable
Bon rapport qualité-prix.
