Terra Thai is a small family owned Thai restaurant, offering Thai street food at a street price tag. We offer a small curated menu that you could find along the streets of Thailand. We want to share our love of flavor, food, and cooking with you who come to live or to enjoy East Village neighborhood.
The basil chicken over rice was simply amazing.
The pad see ew was okay. It lacked a bit of flavor and dimension that I often find at other Thai restaurants.
However, the prices are great. The portions are a bit small; so it would be nice if they had optional larger sizes for a slightly higher price?
I’d certainly recommend giving Terra Thai a visit. There’s not much indoor seating besides a small makeshift counter with stools. They are definitely a takeout place. The staff and owner is very friendly. I’m sure I’ll be back for the basil chicken over rice.
I had high expectations for Terra Thai, but I found it underwhelming. After chatting with the hostess about my allergies, I ordered the green curry. The dish was fine, but nothing spectacular about it. The restaurant is charming with a cozy atmosphere. The prices were great, but the food wasn’t as great as I hoped.
Terra Thai was recommended as a “best lunch spot” on Reddit so my fiancé and I went during a day trip from Baltimore. He had the basil chicken which was sublime and I had the amazing drunken noodles. We shared the most delicious pork dumplings. The food was stellar but the best part was the service! So kind and friendly! We will be back and I hope everyone visits and supports this business when in the east village.
I unfortunately moved away from NYC, but writing this review cause I was thinking about the basil chicken tonight. Truly one of the hidden gems of NYC. The owners are incredible and kind, just amazing human beings. And the food is to die for. The basil chicken is one of the best dishes I've ever eaten. Unique, fresh, and spicy. Check it out if you are in the area!
I almost missed and walked by this place, but glad I found this small, local Thai place. I sat alongside the plants on a tiny counter and enjoyed the pad see ew with tofu. Food is good, a typical menu. I like supporting family and local businesses, and this is one I'd come back to support. Would recommend take out and eating it at the park nearby. Enjoy!
Super fire Thai place! I wish I had found this shop sooner. It’s a small hole-in-the-wall relatively easy to miss. It’s take-out only due to the shop’s size but they have seating outside. The restaurant seemed authentic and you can get a few different noodles and fried rice dishes.
The flavors of the drunken noodles were amazing! The oil and basil with whatever seasonings used were perfect. Much better than the handful of other Thai places I visited. The tofu is (by default) softer instead of crispy so you may want to mention crispy tofu if that’s your foretaste. You can customize the spice level, I thought medium was perfect and I usually eat spicy foods. The ice cream was also sooo good, it tasted like thai iced tea boba! Go here if you love Thai food!!
There are things you generally take for granted in your day to day life that you simply don't appreciate, but without life experience, how could you? I'd argue that your local takeout spot is at the top of this list.
You move away and miss it more than you could have ever imagined. You try to find a substitute, but they just don't make your go-to dish QUITE the same. Something’s missing, something’s off.......... Well, I'm sure you can see where this is going, but Terra Thai is my local takeout spot. My life raft. My lighthouse in a storm.
This large Basil Chicken Plate medium spice is essentially keeping me alive at this point, as I have it AT LEAST two times a week. It is a MOUND of carefully seasoned flavorful chicken, a side of white rice, an egg, and broccoli. There is no beating it. It is the equivalent to a home cooked meal and is the perfect post workout meal. It is the sole reason that Terra Thai is my starting PG on my All-NBA Lower East Side restaurants.
We are at the point now when I call in to place my order, Aung, the owner, answers with a "Hi Johnny!!" and it brings a smile to my face every time. I go in and we chop it up, she asks how work is, how my friends are, how life is going, etc. I always give her a hug on the way out...she is essentially my east coast Granny at this point ahaaha.... damn I miss my Granny... Also I've become cool with one of the employees in there, shoutout to my guy Yoshi always showin love!
So am I a little biased? Yeah maybe, but you're off your rocker if you think I would come here as often as I do if that large Basil Chicken Plate didn't SMACK like it does. I literally price things in Basil Chicken Plates these days... I'll be out at Flower Shop or Ding-a-Ling and think "Yeah I could buy this drink rn but that's really a full Basil Chicken Plate at Terra Thai..."
Sometimes you have to go through deep pain in order to appreciate true greatness. You have to wander and be lost in order to know when you've found something special. You have to lose that Fire Grilled Chicken Salad from Cafe Rio in order to appreciate the large Basil Chicken Plate from Terra Thai.
Andy Bernard put it better than I ever could when he said “I wish there was a way to know you're in the good ole days before you've actually left them.” Well, I know I'm in the good ole days right now and I'm appreciating every last second. I eat every large Basil Chicken Plate like it’s my last.
THANK YOU TERRA THAI! THANK YOU AUNG, I LOVE YOU!

Best Thai in New York
Best Thai in nyc, please never close again!!
Cannot get better Thai for the price in the city, incredible
Nicest owners and best food ever!!

Excellent, they truly have cooking down to an at form, prefect amount of everything in the dish and at a reasonable price.
Totally delicious - the best Pad Thai in my life...
Good to go food and good prices 👍🏻
I never write a review unless something is extremely good or extremely bad!! This is the gold standard for Thai food! Best I’ve ever had! Thank you!
Delicious Thai food and very charming and small inside as other have said !
Overpriced delivery cost, the amount of food wasn't worth it, and half of it wasn't edible. Who wraps their rice in plastic??? You open the plastic and the rice spills everywhere. The pork buns were hardly filled and cold. The drunken noodles were flavorless and greasy.
Good stuff
Very how good and good price
i live and breathe terra thai
So goooooood
My favorite Thai food in East Village by far... The green curry is next level!!
Incredibly friendly people and delicious food!
A tiny cute hole in the wall for great Thai food. Unfortunately they only have seating for two so it's more of a takeout spot. But Tompkins Square Park is nearby to enjoy outside.
Reccs:
- Panang Curry
They also have a selection of Thai ingredients
Tiny but excellent place ! Nice service and great food
Love the authentic Thai food with the warmhearted friendly atmosphere.
So delicious
Ordered pickup and the food was absolutely delicious! It was a fresh high quality meal. Can’t wait to order again.
Been to this place many times and it is always so flavorful and the owners and very kind, really nice pricing and the food hits different. Would highly recommend. Also a ton of beautiful plants in the restaurant which has a nice atmosphere
*updating my review May 2024: this is the best pad Thai in New York City. I have a list and nothing has beaten this so far. Try it with poached egg
Terra Thai is a community staple ran by the best lady in the whole entire world!! She deserves the best for all the smiles she puts on her customers faces. Yummy yummy thai food ☺️
I’ve never had such fresh and delicious Pad Thai in my life. Fresh, unique, not too sweet… just incredible. So glad I discovered this lovely place. Can’t wait to return.
Incredible family owned Thai food at great prices. The team at Terra Thai is incredible and I’m always greeted with a smile.
Daunted by the rare negative review for Terra Thai? Don’t be. I’ve been here over 50 times and have never had a bad experience. Come support a fantastic small business and enjoy authentic Thai food. You will not regret it.
Got chicken pad thai takeout, asked for it Hot (spiciest level they have). Not only was it not spicy but it was overly salted and so oily that it leaked out of the container into the plastic bag I carried it home in. I had to take multiple paper towels to clean up the oil around the container.
The attention was very good, excellent fried rice. One of the best Thai food restaurants I have found in New York.
The owner was sweet but the girl working the counter was pretty rude and unwelcoming. The portions were pretty small especially now that I’m seeing those who reviewed here ,and took pictures, got much bigger portions. A legitimate empty gap was in my plate. Honestly the food was mid and there is way better Thai for cheaper prices. The place itself is small with only one countertop as a table , you may have to wait outside. We waited for a table and had to leave because it was offered to the people behind us.
Delicious, inconspicuous, great little place!
Lovely place with great people who work there and absolutely delicious food. Highly recommended.
The basil chicken over rice was simply amazing.
The pad see ew was okay. It lacked a bit of flavor and dimension that I often find at other Thai restaurants.

I’d certainly recommend giving Terra Thai a visit. There’s not much indoor seating besides a small makeshift counter with stools. They are definitely a takeout place. The staff and owner is very friendly. I’m sure I’ll be back for the basil chicken over rice.
I just got a delivery order from this place and found a metal staple and a hair in my food. It was super disappointing and slightly scary (imagining if the staple would’ve scratched my cheek or been swallowed). I’m sure this place is good but they should probably check their safety practices when prepping takeout orders for customers. I’m hoping I’m a rare 1 in a million case, but I thought it only fair to tell others about this experience so folks take caution when experiencing their food.
Tried Terra Thai today after reading the reviews on Yelp and it was delicious. I ordered 1/2 hour before closing and they waited for me to get there to pick up. The grilled pork was very tasty as was the chicken satay. Pad si ew is my go to dish and it did not disappoint. Will be ordering again.
Love this hidden gem, it has such a great vibe the owner was very sweet and attentive she was really what made me love this place even more this place honestly deserves 5 stars my sister brought me here with her husband and although the place is small we managed to all fit and eat together as a family, the food is amazing i got the chicken satay it was incredible very flavorful and just so good i will be recommending this spot to all my Thai food lovers and will definitely be coming back!
Tiny hole in the wall. Best for you and one other to sit inside. Only four at a time. Great comfort food. Usually people do take out and deliveries.

Admittedly, I haven’t tried a lot of thai food in New York, but I’m 100% sure this is one of the best there is. It’s so comforting, like your mum cooking for you.
Incredibly delicious!! Amazing service, they’re the sweetest. Love the noodles, the desserts and the vibes are SOOOOOOOO CUTE inside ✨✨✨✨✨😍
Perfeito! Pena que são só 2 assentos!
First time trying this place and it was yummy. We had it delivered and it was promptly delivered and everything was well packaged and fresh
Used to love this place but the food hasn't been great last 2 times I went. Whatever you were doing before go back to it
Delicious authentic Thai food in the East Village. Limited seating space though.
this place heals. i feel like this place fitly snugs into the warmest and most protective part of my little brain. the doraemon decorations, the plants, the music, the people! the thai tea was top tier and we had pad thai and grilled pork with sticky rice. eating with family in a place that feels like home
perfect flavor, exact the same as I ate in Thailand, love it!
The basil chicken is truly out of this world 😋
So delicious, every single dish and every single time. I feel lucky to live close by and come here often. 🥲
I've been here a few times now (and ordered delivery once) and this is hands down my favorite Thai restaurant in the neighborhood. Every dish I've tried is delicious, the staff is amazing, and eating next to all their plants is just lovely. This is a literal hole in the wall restaurant with a real mom and pop "homey" feeling in addition to quality food and for very reasonable prices!
One of my favorite take out spots :)
Pad Thai was fabulous!
Amazing food highly recommend the **Drunken Noodle*** and the basil chicken over rice, made extra spicy as I requested. The Thai Ice Tea, fried pork dumplings and the chicken Pad Thai. I enjoyed my mini feast, everything was perfection!!
Basil tofu was delicious! Forgot to take photos because it smelled so good I started eating immediately 😂 Have to go back to try everything else on the menu. ❤️
Awful . We saw the ratings and ordered 1 of the drunken noodles last evening
I've never tasted such awful mish-mash in my experience of any cuisine or food from any class of restaurants so far, overcooked, tasteless, it was as if some leftovers were reheated, over cooked & sent off.
I'd appreciate being paid back for the upset stomach we went through last night
Hay solo una mesa, pero nos sirvió para disfrutar de una buenísima comida.
Un agrado
just thinking about the chicken pad se ew makes me salivate
Delicious food!! My go to Thai food spot in the East Village :) Go support this small business!
This place is SO GOOD, if you're wondering if you should try it, let this be your sign! I lived in the area for around a year, and out of all the Thai food places nearby, this was hands down the best. Flavorful food, great portions, and to top it all off, the kindest staff you'll ever meet! Just genuinely good people. Highly recommend!
Truly the best thai in the city! quaint tiny vibes inside, perfect food and the owner is the sweetest!
Yassss 👏
Nothing else comes close. It’s the literal best freshest Thai food in the entire city. Basil chicken with rice, satay, all of it is so good. Like so incredibly good.
Can’t wait to go back and try other things on the menu ! Loved the decor and vinyls
Food was amazing !! One of the best Thai food places in nyc
Absurdly good food in an impossibly cute space. New neighborhood favorite!
The best food around. Its ready quick, its phenomenally seasoned, and everyone is friendly. Always great music too if you can get a table!
Efficient & excellent service, delicious food, beautiful space
Very small and cosy restaurant, I guess most people do take out / delivery. I ordered the pad see ew with shrimps and it was the best one I had on nyc. I also got the Tom kah soup with chicken , unfortunately they made it too hot (temperature) so besides burning my tongue it was challenging eating it. I will definitely go back for the pad see ew and try their other dishes
Food is delicious and the staff are the sweetest
One of the best Pad Thai I ever had (and trust me I lived in Asia and I tried many many pad Thai in NYC), it’s just perfect!
Fantastic food that is well worth the effort to seek out. The Pad Si Ew is the best that I have had anywhere. Many of the other standout dishes are ones that you don't often see. Kua Kling is an exceptional combination of flavors, matching turmeric with sweetness of the caramel chicken. The braised pork is similarly sublime, managing to be both tender and well-spiced. Even the classics like Basil Chicken (brilliantly accompanied by an egg) are great. Do not miss out on the desserts either! The mango sticky rice is worth a trip alone. You can't go wrong with the menu, but if you are lost ask the owners for advice! They are exceptionally friendly and happy to guide you through the menu. A great, eclectic combination of jazz, plants, and Miyazaki items complete the scene.
This is my absolute favorite place. The food is creative and satisfying. Staff are friendly and welcoming. The space is cozy with plants, art and jazz records playing in the background. Please add this gem to your list 💕
Best Thai food in the United States hands down.
Absolutely delightful!
Great thai food
Amazing delicious Pad Thai, good portion and good prices, 100% recommended. Would go back to try everything else on the menu.
Delicious food, delightful conversation - try the pandan pudding
Food -- got drunken noodles with chicken. It was good. Ok price. Small portions.
Service -- great
Atmosphere -- very tiny store, really to go only
I almost missed and walked by this place, but glad I found this small, local Thai place. I sat alongside the plants on a tiny counter and enjoyed the pad see ew with tofu. Food is good, a typical menu. I like supporting family and local businesses, and this is one I'd come back to support. Would recommend take out and eating it at the park nearby. Enjoy!
My favorite chicken pad kra pao
Love this place! The cutest vibes
Best pad thai I've ever had hands down.
Honestly, the best Thai food I've had in NYC.
Fantastic Food! My girlfriend and I had a great time eating at this cute and authentic Thai restaurant. The owner, a lovely lady is very nice and welcoming. The food itself was rich, tasty and had a lot of bang for the buck 🤟
Of the many Thai spots i’ve tried in NYC over the years, Terra Thai is 100% the best one and my go-to take-out restaurant. The energy in Terra Thai is so pleasant and everybody who works there is super nice. My favorite dish is their (hot) Drunken Noodles but the desserts are also a must-try. Cannot recommend this spot enough!
Incredible, family-run, hole in the wall spot. The noodles are particularly great, they taste more homemade than many other places. The homemade ice cream is wonderful too. It's a smaller menu than many Thai restaurants but doing fewer things really well is better than having a huge list of dishes where maybe only a few are stand-outs. This place opened during the pandemic and thrived, so that means something.
Delicious food made by the kindest owners. You feel like you’re in their kitchen in Thailand and fed with love. They also play excellent music (and have lovely plants). A very special place.
The food, pudding and Thai iced tea were delicious. Exactly what I was looking for. Also just a really cute cosy place. Only two seats if you're lucky, so mainly a takeout place.
Sweet owner with a flavor master chef for the best Thai food in NYC. At least top 5. Take out only. Small seating for two people. Delicious food made with a smile. Will be back again.
Simply delicious food, great service
Love this place. The food tastes so healthy. I’ve loved the pad Thai and drunken noodles (which is perfectly spiced enough with shavings of peppers). I need to explore more of the menu. Love the staff too
The best Thai take away in Ny!
an absolute gem ✨✨✨ this is my go-to spot for takeout. the food is consistently tasty, the vibes of the small shop are so cute and perfect (ceramics and other knick knacks are for sale within) and the lady who I believe owns this place is SO sweet and gentle. she gave my group a free dessert that she made herself that morning. this place is precious!!!
my favorite item is the drunken noodles with tofu :)
Everything we ordered was delicious!
Great food and super sweet people, good customer service, etc. Can’t go wrong
The drunken fried rice is legit incredible
5 starts for the food and for the kindest owner ever!
So cozy and everything is delicious!
Literally the best thai in town. So authentic and fresh. Will return!
Small cozy restaurant but simple delicious Thai food !
5 stars because of the immaculate service from both Envi and the Thai lady, the coziness of the place and the coconut rice pudding (literally the best we've ever had, we had to take 2)
We ate the basil chicken on rice with an egg, the noodles pad ew with tofu and the soup. We liked everything but the basil rice was our favorite, in my opinion the soup wasn't as flavorfull as the rest.
Wishing Terra thai a lot of success 🙌 greetings from Iceland:)
Amazing food, great service, great price, exceptional people.
This place is great. The food is all amazingly delicious. I could eat here every week and never get tired of it. The rice pudding dessert is definitely worth trying!
Nice people. In love with Ang. She remembers my name and is soo friendly every time. I eat couple of times a week here xD. Sooo yummi. I gonna miss this place!
Superb food and caring owners. I flew in from Colorado just today and detoured from my upstate trip to this gem. Best Tom Kha in years and the dessert... yummy and all in my tummy now. I only wish this place was much closer to me. I guess I will keep coming back when I'm popping into the East Coast.
First time going to Terra Thaï and i have to say that i was not disappointed. The service was great (super friendly) and the food was delicious.
Not the best, definitely not the worst
I think that this place deserve title of the best pad thai in the city!
The best home cooked Thai food. Ong is the sweetest. Have to try the mango ice cream.
Unbelievably good
Where to begin... Firstly, Terra Thai is a must hit spot for Thai food. I've done my fair share of eating through Thailand and for years have struggled to find authentic flavors here in America. Terra Thai is the only spot I've found that does it right - it's as close to authentic as you can get. No place to sit down, so either take it home or eat in Thompkins Square
Secondly, the owner is an absolute gem. I walked in one day and asked for extra basil in my pad krapow gai (basil chicken). Of course she said yes, and then asked when I could come back so she can cook me lunch using her home grown holy basil (much more flavor). Came back a few days later - we took a minute to admire her basil, then cooked me the best basil chicken yet
Overall, if you appreciate authentic food and small mom & pop style restaurants -- you need to get here immediately
The food is yummy
Delicious takeout Thai food. We get food from these wonderful people nearly every week. Favorite Thai spot. What’s so special is the people running this ma’ and pa’ restaurant. Eat local! Support this restaurant!
Super fire Thai place! I wish I had found this shop sooner. It’s a small hole-in-the-wall relatively easy to miss. It’s take-out only due to the shop’s size but they have seating outside. The restaurant seemed authentic and you can get a few different noodles and fried rice dishes.

You can customize the spice level, I thought medium was perfect and I usually eat spicy foods. The ice cream was also sooo good, it tasted like thai iced tea boba! Go here if you love Thai food!!
This is fantastic Thai. Period. If you want just straight up EXCELLENT Thai take out. Make the trek it is well worth it. Lovely people, amazing food, an absolute 10!!
What a hidden gem! The food is delicious and we even got a free dessert! We will definitely be back :)
insanely delicious food. Will definitely be back for those pork dumplings & drunken fried rice!!
I ordered from here and the spiciness was switched between mine and my husband’s order… 🤦♀️ fine we switched all good. My complaint is with the delivery driver. There was a mix up in the delivery address, no big deal, I ended up finding my food. I called the driver initially to figure out exactly where he delivered to, he told me, I explained that I had chosen a different address, but that I would figure it.. still no big deal. My issue is with his follow up text which was not so nice. “Nex time make sure you do things right” seriously? I didn’t blame it on him or anything, I only said, “I’m not sure what happened”, but “no big deal”, that “I would figure it out.” I didn’t ask for re-delivery or for him to do anything. This little passive aggressive jab was not needed or wanted.
Delicious food! Definitely a reliable 4.9 google rating! No indoor seating available
My uncle loved the food and the people here. Thank you!
Excellent food in the east village
Amazingly tasty food - satisfied my Thai food cravings as someone from southeast asia. The pad thai and drunken fried rice with shrimps are my go-tos!
Owners are always very friendly and will greet you with a smile. Store is small and cozy with lots of fun plants and decor. Def support this small business
Such good quality and fresh Thai food!
The thick drunken noodles are amazing, but so is everything else on the menu. The green curry is pretty spicy but very flavorful, and the pad Thai is great too!
Try the desserts!!
So affordable and Yummy 10/10
Tom Kha soup. Literally the blandest soup I have ever had. Really bad. No acidity at all (no lime), no salt, no flavor! Taste like absolutely nothing, Literally tastes like they just didnt finish it, and definitely didn't try it before sending it out. Very disappointing, won't return. ALSO, it was $10 for a small! Crazy. For a soup that is supposed to be loaded with bright flavors, this tasted like coconut dishwater.
Very sweet lady, but I won't be coming here again for food. The food genuinely has no flavor or depth.
Delicious
Love the drunken noodles. My go to Thai option in Alphabet City!
Sen Yai noodles weren't as spicy as I thought it would be but the dish was flavorful. Don't miss out on the mango ice cream
Personally the food was very strong in spices/flavor. Since I wasn’t used to it it was rather overwhelming and the meats taste wasn’t for me. As for the rice and egg, they were a nice combination. This place does not offer seating, I had to eat in a park bench. The interior is very homey with a selection of small snacks and drinks as well. This place is good, I don’t think I’d recommend it to someone who is sensitive in the tongue and never had Thai food.
Really good food … have ordered multiple times now and on point every time
My favorite Thai takeout spot. Good portion and definitely authentic.
Really tasty and Good neighborhood hole in the wall family run Thai spot. Put it on your list!
Best Thai restaurant in New York! Definitely recommend! The staff is really nice as well.
