Quaint Thai standby with sidewalk benches serving street eats, traditional dishes & seasonal picks.
Great food! Even better service. I usually pickup a lot of door dash orders from here and wanted to see what all the hype was about. I got a vegan (yay!!) Thai tea, salad rolls, and pad Thai lemongrass chicken and it was amazing! Lovely place just a little dark and hard to see inside is all.
I think we have tried most things on their menu here. I am happy that it's our neighborhood Thai restaurant because their food is of quality. I have been a green curry fan since my travels to Chiang Mai, Thailand, and theirs tastes exactly like it should. There are so many good things to order here: Pad Kee Mow, panang red curry, pineapple fried rice, chicken satay. Very friendly staff.
Incredibly warm, welcoming and friendly servers and staff.
Crab puffs that actually taste like crab, and not just cream cheese!
Our order arrived hot and ready in a remarkably short amount of time.
Delicious Yellow Curry and Pad Garlicky (although my Thai Hot could have been hotter!).
I see that others have had less than satisfactory meals here, but from our visit, I see nothing to complain about. Either they've addressed the issues mentioned previously, or our experience was anomaly. Somehow I doubt that.
A little out of the way for us, but good to know there's a place in St. Johns that makes some darn good Thai food.

Found a piece of foil tie or metal of some sort
Ordered fried rice togo just now the manager or employee refused to help me with my refund said the owner is in Thailand and can only do a credits, for a refund she needs to call and ask for permission and wanted me to bring the rice into the restaurant so she could verify what it was, which I didn't have any problem doing but she than started stating that she is too busy right now to help and pretty much brushed me away! It's hard to support small businesses when they don't want to handle things like professionally! This is definitely something you might want to consider before you eat here!
My friend organized a Meetup dinner here before viewing the Christmas ships at Cathedral Park, and the service was amazing. The manager, Joy I believe, is wonderful. I especially loved my potstickers. I’ll plan another visit in 2025!
My favorite local Thai food joint! Always friendly. Always happy to see you. Always in good spirits with great customer service. The lady behind the counter is just a dollface😍
I’ve been going here for years and it’s always been so consistently good. I’ve probably ordered the pad Thai over 50 times and am always impressed. Their curries are phenomenal too
***Updated review***
I have had Thai Cottage delivered probably 15 times since my original review below.
It has only gotten better.
I have no clue how they know how to cook broccoli that is perfect after spending 30 minutes in a car, but they do.
This place is 98 percentile, somewhere out there someone might be making better Thai food, but pretty much everyone else is behind this place.
Outstanding Thai food.
Probably in my top 2 or 3 in Portland.
Everything was spot on.
This place is my goto Thai place from now on.
Best Thai food in North Portland. I usually get the Yellow Curry, Mussaman Curry, or the Pineapple Fried Rice.
Flavors are great. Good portion sizes for price. Friendly fast service.
Great thai!

Great food, fast preparation. Enjoyed my lunch!
Local favorite spot for Thai food. Was recommended by friends in the St. Johns neighborhood and this is just our favorite!
I ordered Pad Thai to go. The flavor was good, but the noodles were mushy and texture awful. The service was good, staff friendly and business clean.
One of the best Thai places in town
I’ve been going here for years and it’s always been so consistently good. I’ve probably ordered the pad Thai over 50 times and am always impressed. Their curries are phenomenal too
Joy was truly a joy! Great customer service and food was delicious! Would definitely come again
Edit for 2024: The folks that work here will treat you with such kindness every time you see them, and prepare some truly delicious curries (and food in general, but I'm a curry man lately). I'm vegan and they accommodate that with grace, and are aware of all the ingredients in their dishes. Their dine-in provides a lovely environment to enjoy a meal. Thanks for always being there, Thai Cottage! :)
(Original 2022 Review) Great Thai food. My partner and I love going here it’s so close to home for a lot of the neighborhood.
Food is always excellent, and the restaurant is warm and inviting. Staff is friendly and efficient.
Great place in the heart of Saint Johns. Friendly service and great Thai food. Aware of dietary needs. Recommend!
My fiance and I have ordered here a few times. The food tastes decent but they consistently mess up the spice levels. My fiance will order a thai hot, I'll order a medium or mild and I keep getting thai hot.

Usually always get take out. Food is quick and fresh and the staff is great. This is our go to local Thai place other than the red onion.
Ordered Pad See Eew with beef.
The beef was literally inedible, like shoe leather. A 40$ meal. Only half of that we could eat. We were offered a whole 2$ off. Which made the situation worse. Then told that's just how the beef is. I was extremely disappointed since we order take here often. I took a quick look in the kitchen to tell the cook my thoughts. I do suggest taking a look at who is cooking your food here. You might think twice if you do. it was disgusting. We will never go here again. I'll try the food cart thai food just down the road.
Amazing Thai food, very kind staff, and quick service! Dine in or take out- both are great options. I am happy St. John’s has quality Thai food in the heart of downtown.
Every dish so far has been perfect. Customer service is fantastic. The bathroom is very wheelchair accessible and even though the front door is not, the employees will hold it open for you if you have an extra person to go inside and ask. They seem very popular and busy every time I come. I can see why.
ordered salad rolls to go. they were made promptly but were missing a key ingredient: mint! listed on the menu but not included. pretty disappointing. still they were fresh and filling.
Always great food, some of the best Thai in all of Portland here. Staff is very friendly and efficient as well!
This was one of THE best Thai food places I have experienced in Oregon. Incredible flavor, cute atmosphere, very friendly staff. Can’t go wrong with this pick for your lunch or dinner!
My go to Thai place in St John's. Good food prepared by friendly people in a chill little spot. Try the stir fry if you love crispy fresh vegetables.
Great spot for lunch or dinner
Quick and cheap Thai food that’s really good, I’ve been coming here for years.
Small local business next to Central downtown St. John's. Reasonable prices for large portions; lunch specials. Quick service for dine in and takeout. I really enjoy the panang curry and the pad see ew. For less adventurous souls the yakisoba and Thai peanut noodle are great dishes for people new to the cuisine. I always get Thai tea in the summer but I also enjoy the hot tea when I dine in. I am not partial to seafood textures but the flavor was great and I even tasted a scallop and enjoyed it. Spring rolls are served with a tasty peanut sauce. I recommend eating family style a dish selected by each person because I have yet to try anything I wouldn't order again!

Nice cozy restaurant for date night. We really liked the salad rolls and Thai iced tea. Fast service. Would go again!
I really wish I could rate this place higher. We loved our food when we dined in, and most take-out dishes we've tried have been delicious. That said, my partner and I have been vegan for 10+ years, and we were given chicken vs. tofu curry in the last order. Eating meat not only causes physical sickness for us now (your body can't digest it after you haven't eaten it for awhile), but felt really upsetting given our personal ethics. When we called to inform of the issue, we were matter-of-factly informed we could come back to pick up the order they mixed up. When we explained more after arriving back, the response felt dismissive and lacking understanding.
I hope our experience is a one off, but given the nonchalant response, I worry about future order mix ups will happen, and urge caution to other vegans, vegetarians or folks with allergies or dietary restrictions.
I tried to email to talk this through rather than leave a review, since we really do love their food and vegan options, but received no reply :(
Kind staff, very yummy food and easy to eat gluten free and vegan! We went for lunch and it was quite cold inside (felt like the heat wasn't on at all), but otherwise it was great and we will definitely be back.
Best Thai in all of Portland! My order is always perfect and the customer service is excellent!
Food was really good. I ordered the crispy duck curry (medium) and my wife ordered the pumpkin curry (medium), both were very good and the service was quick.
We love getting take out here or a casual dine in dinner. The service here is so wonderful and friendly. The food is always delicious and hits the spot.
Staff is great and quality of food is wonderful
Very attentive cashier/server. Good pad Thai, try the duck curry, and crab Rangoon
Wonderful and friendly service with the best tofu Khao Soi soup I have ever had. Great pick-me-up on a cold day!
Delicious chicken pad thai! Worth the money.
Really great pad thai
Thai Cottage is definitely one of my "go to" spots for Thai food...I've gotten to know some of the staff there and they are very warm and welcoming...The curry's are very tasty and Eddie makes the best Thai iced tea and coffees....This little gem is tucked in the corner on Lombard. So it's easy to pass by it without noticing...Stop by there, it's well worth it and not too hard on the wallet!
Food was amazing and so was the service, definitely going there again!
We've ordered take out a few times; tonight was first time eating in. It was comfortable & relaxing. There were several tables with 2 people conversing quietly. Music was pleasant & not too loud. Woman working all the tables was so friendly, cheerful, and fast. We felt welcome and cared for. She checked on us twice, which was perfect for our small meal...it didn't feel like too much or not enough. Food was hot and quite delicious. We'll be back again. Thank you!
If you're on a diet or you have a tasteless palette tounnge then this place is for you.
I'd order a plate of phad Thai,, and all I gotten was a small portion of noodles served on a serving tray platter for $30 bucks.
I was really disappointed.
Consistently amazing. Great Thai food (hits all the expected notes) and fantastic service. I go here all the time.
The Thai food is excellent, staff is friendly, service is great. Try the Tom yum fried rice or Khao Soi!
Best pad Thai around here. Recommended.
Everyone was very kind and welcoming. The food was delicious.
Everything I’ve ordered fro
Thai Cottage is sooo tasty. I love their green curry and recently got the duck noodle soup. 10/10! Duck is juicy and broth is very rich. Such good flavor and the people are so kind! Highly recommend.
So happy to have good Thai Food in St Johns that can be gluten free.
Ordered takeout and the Lady running register charged me the wrong price less than the cost but called me as I was almost home to tell me she have me the wrong order and I needed to come back or "my wife be really upset brought home wrong food". So I went back and it was the right order she just wanted another $20.00 to cover the actual price. I asked her "you made a mistake and made me drive all the way back here for $20.00?". She just kept saying "out of my control, I have no controls"...lol. I'd be cautious with this place and this lady. Food was OK, I've had much better.
Bleh.
Horrible custemer service!! I spend $38.75 on 2 plates with drinks to go. I asked the drinks for here since I just came from a game. Lady filled the soda all full with ice! I asked for a refill since they give us small medium cups. She told me she did not give refills. I showed her all the ice on my cup. She told me to go next door to the Mexican place.. I told her that was the last time I would buy food there. She told me that's fine.
(why would you loose a custemer over a oversized ice cup) I told her she has horrible custemer service. I guess some people don't have common sense. 🤷
Great food and service!
Wow!! They make their own noodles and I think they are the best I've ever had at over 50 different Thai restaurants. Big recommend!
What kind of thai place doesn't have a peanut sauce smh
Great neighborhood spot, Always delicious, great service
Delicious, fresh, and flavorful! I can't believe this little restaurant isn't packed 24/7. Of you can get it, the sweet sticky mango rice is the best 👌

A little out of the way for us, but good to know there's a place in St. Johns that makes some darn good Thai food.
The food was amazing and the Thai tea was so good that we ordered more to go, our food arrived at our table literally 5 minutes after we ordered, very fast and very good service, it is our new favorite restaurant
The food was amazing. The people were friendly and had excellent service.
The best food in at Johns all the fry dishes are super
Decent Thai food, but there are better options in NoPo, IMO. Hadn't been here for years and was very underwhelmed by their pad thai and remember why I stopped coming here. Don't want to trash the place, but their are better options for pad thai, at least, in North Portland.
Excellent food! Had green curry, pad Thai, and Khao soy and they were all amazing! Server was kind and helpful!
Amazing service! So friendly! & the food is *chefs kiss* delicious. Definitely going back again 👌👌
Their pad Thai and curry is good ombudsman too spicy for me even when I tell them mild with no spice. The staff is great. Wontons are delish!
Delicious food at great prices!
We went here based on recommendations from friends. My husband ordered the lemongrass chicken Pad Thai. The chicken was so overcooked and dry that we had trouble chewing it. The pad Thai noodles and sauce were good. I ordered the teriyaki chicken with steamed vegetables and rice. The teriyaki chicken was dry and had a weird aftertaste, not as dry as the lemongrass chicken. When we were halfway finished, the staff came and asked us how the meal was. They offered to make us another dish, but it was already 7:45 pm and we were tired. They gave us a 10% or $3.80 discount. Our friends had ordered curry so maybe that would be a better option. We aren’t coming back though because I’ve never experienced such poor quality of food in my entire life.
Everything there they have super delicious and yummmmmmmmyyyy
Finally found a place that makes great Pad se ew!! Great job you guys!!
Great food, wonderful staff
Delicious Thai food on Lombard Street in St. John. The service is fast. The food flavors were "broke da mouth" and the Thai coffee was a great compliment to the food. Parking is tough.
Good food!
Delightful curries. Cute local spot!
This little local thai restaurant is so good!! We went on a Monday night and it was cozy and the food was great. Service was fantastic. At the start of our meal, that corner of the block lost power including the restaurant but the staff made it work! They were amazing, continued cooking, apologized even though there was no need, brought out a little candle for each table to use, were so upbeat and funny and honestly we enjoyed our experience that much more! What they thought was going to be an inconveniece actually made us appreciate them even more. We will 100% return here and recommend it. The sauces were all well balanced (not too salty or sweet), everything was so fresh, great portions and fantastic price. We shared the chinese eggplant with chicken, the pad see-ew with beef and the potstickers to start. Def check this place out!
Highly recommend, best Thai food I’ve had! their prices were reasonable, the portions were big. Pad kee mao is a GO and so is the curry. The crab puffs have real crab and they also were delicious.
The look of the restaurant was adorable and cohesive and homey and made me feel right in place. A wonderful dinner choice and a great hole in the wall. Will absolutely be back!
EDIT: as of 11/01 I have gone back, now for lunch, and I must say I was disappointed this time around… although my pad kee mao was still tasty; my crab puffs however were remarkably over cooked. I had ordered two sides for my lunch with friends, and the crab puffs were so crunchy that they could barely be eaten. When we asked the waitress if we could possibly send them back and have them redone, she told me that “oh no honey that’s all we can do” But last time they were delicious and perfectly cooked. Honestly it just seemed like the oil was too hot but it was kinda uncomfortable to be responded to that way. Then the waitress lingered directly over our shoulders when signing the receipt for the tip amount. Just kind of an unpleasant experience compared to the great dinner experience I had last time.
This place is excellent. The flavors are amazing and there are so many choices! Each one of us had amazing meals: the Massaman curry made vegan, Kao Soi, Pad Kee Mao, and Green curry. You can’t go wrong here, it deserves 5 stars!!
Kao Soi is absolutely phenomenal
This place makes good food.
Fried calamari was very rubbery
Fried pork belly was dry
Red curry was okay. Wasn't good for the price. Definitely overrated.
Great food and the nicest server.
Fantastic as always.
I stopped by to pick up a side of brown rice. I expected them to hand me a side box for $3, but instead I got this weird little burrito shaped plastic bag. They recommended 3 for my family. The amount I ended up with (for $9) would have filled a single side box, which I've gotten at Drunken Noodle for a dollar. And the rice was mushy. I can't speak to their other food, but hope you don't make the same mistake.
Quality has declined over the years. I came here frequently years ago, and found it reliably well executed, albeit a very predictable menu of American-Thai.
Four of us got lunch today. The best dish was so-so. My dish was the least well presented. What used to be a fluffy bed of rice noodles topped with steamed veggies, protein, and a side of thick peanut sauce was now a container of thin soupy something sauce with overboiled vegetables (primarily large pieces of cabbage). The rice noodles were on the side, overcooked and stuck together. We literally carried the order outside and ate it immediately at the nearby public seating. This was not a matter of hot fresh food sitting in a box too long.
There is no other Thai restaurant nearby, but plenty of other options that are consistently good quality.
Great food, always fast with Togo orders. I love the curries the most!
If you are local to St Johns then this locally run mom and pop Thai place is all you need as far as Thai food cravings go. They have authentic specials and dishes that pack lots of flavor at very fair prices.
Just a warning, the spice levels are a notch higher than you might be used to at Thai places. Whatever level you normally get you might want to go one level lower.
My first time there, the salad rolls were great.
Didn't eat here, but picked up a doordash order and the customer service was wonderful! And I'm sure the food is as well
The number 7 Coconut Prawns are the best in Portland and you get 6 large ones to enjoy. Great taste, light, not greasy
Love the food, love the staff more — So hospitable even when conditions aren’t ideal (busy, summer heat, etc). I’m obsessed with the wings and Thai iced tea. Love you Thai Cottage! 😍
Amazing and delicious thai food, especially yellow curry!
Our server was extremely nice and friendly. The place is very small and I think we came at the right time where we had the place to ourselves. I really appreciated the appetizers they had offered as well as a variety of wok, noodle, curry and salad meals. I ended up ordering the Pad Phet Eggplant with beef and mild on the spice, something I had never tried before and it was surprisingly delicious. I would definitely recommend it! One thing I would wish they had done was provide us with more rice since it felt our ratio for our meals wasn't enough.
Wonderful atmosphere, great service, Amazing Food!
From the moment they brought over a personal chilled water carafe I knew I was in a good spot.
The Jungle Curry with Shrimp was as I said, A-may-Zing!
laid back, chill service that was also very prompt and responsive. great combination.
Definitely recommend checking this little jewel in St. John's out.
This place has become a staple for my partner and I. She is gluten intolerant and all of their dishes marked gluten free have been completely safe for her. We like all the curries and the Tom Kha soup quite a bit.
Only issue we’ve had is with spice levels, mild is almost devoid of heat and medium is prettttyyy spicy and both of us can handle our heat. The real issue is that the flavor gets lost with the hotter heat ratings so we’ve settled on “mild plus” as our preferred heat rating. You can always add more heat with hot sauce but you can’t subtract!
Overall really tasty and flavorful food, filling portions and good prices. We both eat for under $30 total with a 20% tip on the regular.
Delicious stir fries and noodles. Hopping place for takeout.
I'm writing this from a happy food coma after eating their pork belly basil stir fry and crab puffs for dinner. The prices are super reasonable, portions are large and the food is delicious.
Super friendly. Great food. Many levels of spice. Had the shrimp, it was dank.
The service was FAST and so NICE I will be headed over here all the time for sure
Lit.
Their pad thai doesn't have wide noodles, which I love. The Thai iced tea is thick and flavorful leaving me wanting more. The calamari is lightly breaded and tasty however I do thing it's a vit too pricy along with their cream cheese puffs. The stir fried dishes are my favorite because I ear the meat and veggies first then mix the rice with the left over sauce and save that for later. Overall my favorite Thai restaurant to order at.
Took a little longer than expected but the gal on the front end was hustling and super nice. Food was great. Definitely recommend.
Simple delicious
Can’t recommend this place highly enough. It feels like home, they always make you feel so
welcome and a part of the community. The host we typically see is always working super hard, but is so sweet as she does it. Thank you to her!
We’ve had Thai all over town and luckily the closest one to us is also the best! Try the yellow curry with chicken and the pad kee mao, both are wonderfully fresh and well spiced. There’s also enough curry to have an extra serving for lunch, which is always a bonus.
Best pad see ew i’ve had in a while!!! Yum!!
Ordered there twice and definitely up to the NYC standard. Just expect that it is “real medium spice” when you asked for medium spice, which I love ❤️ (there is no more lunch menu)
Coconut shrimp, to die for! Yellow curry so good. Shrimp fried rice delicious.
Absolutely delicious.
Great Thai food. I love this place and have never been disappointed. I would totally recommend this to anyone who likes Thai or wants to try it.
Panang curry and pad Thai are very good. Always enjoy eating here.
Takeout order was nothing to write home about. Ordered three dishes: one was over-spiced, one had no spice, they got the third one right. Flavors were underwhelming.
Best Thai iced tea in pdx
Super attentive service and have no regrets sitting down here. I would recommend here every time I visit Portland.
It was clean nice service of quick the lady there was very nice and helpful
Delightful hostess, delicious food.
Excellent place great vibes great service & Amazing food
I got chicken pad thai and the pineapple fried rice. I asked for medium spicy, and it was SUPER HOT. Wow! I still liked the flavor, and the rice which was also medium spicy, was not really spicy. There was construction nearby so it was hard to find the location. But I will most likely be back, and ask for mild this time. :)
I got one of the curries and it was amazing! The tofu was perfect and the spice level was just enough. For the amount of food I got for the price, it was a value as well.
The best part was how nice the staff was. He was kind and had decent conversation.
I will definitely be back.
Ridiculously small portions!!
Very nice employees and great food. Yum!
Incredible Thai, some of the most delicious curry, and a more creative special menu from the standard options. Their pad kra pao and beef salad is very tasty, too. Not to mention the superb service from their host in the front. Always brings a smile to my hungry face.
Temporarily I'm going 5*. We got take out and it was tasty.
The "Temporarily" part: The restaurant was hot inside (more than I could've handled for eating) but it was (literally) 105° outside and there was one group of twentysomethings eating in that seemed ok with it. So, assuming PDX survives, we'll try eating in some less broiling time. And I'll remove the "Temporarily" above 😅 .
Anyhow... The tofu pad se ewe was very good. The papaya salad was slightly mild, probably tell them 1*/2* next time. The green Thai iced tea was good, but I think I'll go for standard Thai iced tea in the future.
Staff was nice. He gave water to those picking up to-go👍.
Bottom line, if eating in matches the food we got, solid 5*.
My go-to Thai take-out in North Portland. Excellent curry, and great service.
The restaurant is clean and welcoming, the staff are friendly and fun, and the food is so amazing!! I highly recommend the green Thai iced tea, it's super yummy!!
I want to give it 5 stars because the food is amazing at a good price, but I wish they would switch to paper cups and straws. Please! We love ordering from here, just wish it was a more environmentally sound choice.
Meh
Amazing service and some of the best tasting Thai food I've ever had. And I've been to Thai Land! For the price, you can't beat it. Nicely labeled for gluten-free and vegan. Highly recommend the Pad Thai.
All of their curries are unbeatable. My partner and I are obsessed with noodles but we're trying to be healthy we come here and order different curries with brown rice and it still feels like we're treating ourselves.
Everything I ordered here was phenomenal. Thai tea with boba, pad thai, and green curry were all delicious.
